Having a bearcat converted to 32h&r. I have bought brass from starline ,but been thinking of 32 s&w (short) brass as the go to. Overthinking ? Should I just stay with 32 h&r and load down ? I want to fire this revolver a lot and don’t want to pound the little fella to death! Lol

There are many Bearcats out there in .327 Federal. I think the HnR is just fine. I see no advantage to the Shorter case. Load down if you want to but i don't think you need to. Heck if you going to load down that far just do a 22 mag ! ...tj

Mine (that should be returning shortly) is chambered in 32 H&R Mag but will only see 32 S&W Long. Decision was more nostalgia than anything else (Dad had a 32 S&W Long revolver when he started dating mom 55+ years ago), but also because 32 S&W Long has a rep as a sweet shooting accurate round.
Told Powers to regulate sights to 32 S&W Long 100 gr wadcutters ahead of 2gr Bullseye.
Hoping to have it back in the next couple of weeks.

I load a 96 grain wadcutter with 2.5 grains of bullseye in 32H&R brass. It is like shooting a reloadable 22lr. Of course, this is from a single six.

Sixshot’s load is a powder puff and economical.
“3 gr of WST with that same 100 gr SWC & shoot a grocery sack full of ground squirrels.“

The proofs in the pudding. You have to taste it to find out.
Do load development on the 32 H&Rmag and on the 32 S&W long; and see what you like. You have a great exercise in front of you that will only build confidence that you have made the right choice.
But IMO, almost impossible to make a bad choice. Both are excellent calibers giving you superb velocity, accuracy, and fun options when shooting either one. Even when you find "the one" you like best, the other options don't go away. Variety is after all, the spice of life.

I thought about ordering 32 S&W Long brass, too, but you can load 32 HRM pretty low... a 94 grain rnfp at 700 fps and you'll be shooting that Bearcat forever.

Flush seated HBWC in H&R brass at about 700 to 750 fps. O Yeah. They cut little circles of happiness !

Why go out if your way to shoot a shorter case that will put a carbon/crud ring in the cylinder that is all sorts of fun to clean out?
I have shot buckets of RCBS 95gr semiwaddcutters over 3.2gr of W231 and a std primer for years. Runs 850fps from a 4 5/8” barrel and shoots as good of groups as I can hold. I have shot as low as 2.5gr of W231 with that bullet but never chronoed the load.
The point is the 32 mag case is so user friendly I see no point in going to a shorter case. Heck my 327 mags have never seems a 32 mag case so I don’t have to clean the carbon ring out of them and I really didn’t think I’d ever use that top end of that case over the 32 mag either.

Yeah, the 32 Magnum case is actually much less prone to pressure spikes than the smaller case. Use the correct (for chamber) case and simply reduce the loads.
