I even made these versions one piece. Just mow the material off around it and then slick her up into a sight. Cant adjust it other than turn the barrel but its short and works fine. Just need to make sure you know how high to make it or you might cut it to short. I have had to tig a little back on a few of em. Hahaha This is my very first Ruger. Birthday present from my Grandfather. Went 41 special a number of years ago, but Barrel and sight block are one piece. Set screws work great if you want to move it a smidge from side to side.

Not being a machinist, I don't know what the best way to produce one would be. I don't know if surface grinders are ever employed in making octagons or just mills, or if EDM has a place. I think an ovate barrel with a band that's also the integral front sight base would look very nice, but that's every bit as difficult and costly as a banded octagon I'd imagine. For an octagon band, you could always turn the last bit of an octagon muzzle round, make the octagon band slip over the end, and attach via set screw under the front sight base. Probably easier than milling it out of solid stock. Ronnie, you've got my FA97 with an octagon barrel if you get a wild hair Dont tell me that Todd. Its been everything i could do to keep from turning Your FA 97 into a Ray Gun Man. HAHAHA! It has a Real Bisley Hammer and Trigger on it right now with a Potato judge junior all in stainless at this moment. But i am proto typing a 4 degree forward version of the PJ for it as well. Keith # 5 in stainless is next for it and then as i complete this first order of Ruger stainless hammers and triggers, Then im goin to make a Super blackhawk wide spur series for the 97 to go with the bisley. I think then we will make stainless Dealer conventional with a standard style trigger and wide spur Hammer for it. You should never have let me have this thing. We are really gonna piss off Freedom arms. R

I have a Freedom Arms 83 with a octagon barrel. Call me crazy but I am thinking of some custom work to make it mine. I like the way some round revolvers have a barrel band on the muzzle. Has anyone done a barrel band that is octagon shaped? Oh, I know that it would be extremely labor intensive AND that to accomplish a seamless fit could possibly turn into an train wreck but I believe it would look good. Anybody ever tried it ? From what ive seen Welldone, ole flying zebra could getcha fixed up. Just get your concept down and let him bug it out man. He definately knows what hes doing!

I think our fellow here will be able to get it done.
I'm looking forward to seeing how he handles the project.
I'll be out here cheering him on as he makes chips on the way to his goal.

It's definitely a thrill when a cool project comes together.
I'm constantly grateful for the clients and the work with Jack. I'm a fortunate fellow.
I always get excited for the folks here who commission builds or who dig in and craft their own special guns.
