I posted pics a while back on another thread about my pastor's six Marlins. This one struck me the most so I started a conversation. Last week someone posted a link of stuff David Clements had for sale. I looked at the gun chart and then studied the parts list. David is one of those people who collect things over time worth taking note of. So did Alex Hamilton. I saw four or five lines of 30-30 stuff and called and asked for the package deal. He told me then boxed it up. He laughed and said he had more calls on the 30-30 stuff than anything else. The trigger on this is going to get measured later. It's a surprise from a '94.

Seems strange nowadays . 30-30 and 38 spl. are getting hard to come by so good score . Go figure.

Forgot one. BUCKhorn rear sight ***** You got that right. That’s enough BUCKHORN to hide the buck and his horns. David Bradshaw

We shoot long distance and small targets down here. Hard to use irons unless you are shooting for the pot (whatever walks out close goes into the pot). Especially with our 13 inch inside spread requirement on whitetail, scopes are almost mandatory. I had a pristine waffle top that I WOULD NOT DRILL AND TAP. Nope, not gonna do it, dont care. So a guy in Virginia wanted it (it was made in his birth year and month). Good enough, sold it. He called me about 2 years later and said he wanted to sell it back to me so he could buy a shotgun. I told him "No. I will not buy the rifle back, it has rare use here in Texas and I dont want it drilled and tapped. What I WILL do, is buy you the shotgun (some import over / under under 400 bucks) IF, IF!, you give that rifle to your son. He replied "Really? You would really do that for me?" Yes sir. I am a man of my word. I did buy the shotgun for him, he did give the rifle to his son, and his son is flying in from Virginia just to meet me and stay at my ranch for a couple days. I am baiting the hell out of the hogs to let him have some fun shooting hogs and whatever else walks in front of us. He is bringing the waffle top to play with and a scoped 30-06 for serious work.
Those waffle tops were the pinnacle of Marlin production in my opinion. Just my opinion.

These sporting carbines are my favorite 30/30's hands down. My 1950 model is a solid 1" at 100yd gun. Do yourself a favor and get an original Lyman 66LA (steel base) reciever sight on there, 180gr round nose bullets, and a healthy dose of Reloader 15 and I bet she'll be your favorite as well.

"WAFFLE TOP" MARLIN, NEVER HEARD THE TERM UNTIL RECENTLY, NEVER KNEW WHAT IT WAS UNTIL I SAW THE PICTURE ABOVE, VERY NICE. MARLIN LEVER ACTIONS WERE NOT COMMON WHERE AND WHEN I WAS GROWING UP.

Rey, I’ll try and member to bring my “waffle top” next time I come out to high point. It was a 32WS, it’s now a 50AK, and I’ve owned it since I was in jr. high. Trapr

Medicdave if that means drilling and tapping, that was part of the gentlemans' agreement that no such thing be done.

I just looked at one today in 35rem for $650. First waffle top that I've ever handled. I passed on it because of our Hawaii trip. There was also a 94c in 357mag on rack. Beautiful gun, but I already have a 94cb in 357.

Okay, he never D&T'd it but if you look close you'll see two small plugs (screws) on the side of the receiver. I'd be curious to know if that Lyman would fit these holes.
