Friend of the family purchased this new, in our little town gun/liqueur store just before deer season in 1954. It has been carried around the forest of Northern Michigan a thousand miles I’d bet. Notice the bluing polished away on the bottom of the receiver where his fingers wrapped around. He preferred to hunt on foot – sitting in a blind was boring. Walking with this rifle shows just how right the 94 is – light/slim/balanced and potent with 170 gr bullets traveling 2200 fps.

First center fire rifle I shot was my uncle's 94 30-30. It was a gift from fellow employees when he retired in 1952.

I see it wore a side-mounted scope at one time. In 1952, I believe, Winchester started drilling and tapping 94's for aperture sights. They stopped with the Angle ejection model. An all-steel Lyman 66A goes for around $200, when you can find them. It's a good looking rifle. Perfect for Northern Michigan woods.

Yes - there was a scope mounted on it when I got it years ago. Sitting off to the left side made it hard to shoot left handed (I like being able to shoot left/right). I have a slotted set of blocking screws on the way - just my preference.

ONE OF THE FIRST THINGS MY DAD AND AN UNCLE DID AFTER GETTING OUT OF THE ARMY AIR CORP IN 1945-1946 WAS TO BUY MODEL 94 WINCHESTERS IN 30-30. I SHOT MY FIRST DEER WITH MY DAD's 30-30. I HAVE PASSED MY DAD's 30-30 ON TO MY ELDEST SON (I AM A JR. AND HE A III). MY ELDEST SON HUNTS DEER WITH A SCOPED ANGLE EJECT MODEL 94 30-30, STILL A HELLUVA DEER RIFLE. I HAVE MY UNCLE's 30-30 AND PLAN TO PASS IT ON TO ANOTHER SON.
SHERIFF LONGMIRE (IN A TV SERIES "LONGMIRE" SET IN MODERN DAY WYOMING) CARRIES WHAT LOOKS TO BE A MODEL 94.

I have a similar rifle made in 1958 that I shoot often, 190gr cast bullets make for some cheap and potent fun. The combo will hold 3" or less at 100 yards and I am sure that in a skilled shooters hand that number would shrink in half. A lot to like about those rifles, they just hang in your hand right...

I truly enjoy seeing heirloom guns staying in the family for generations. I cringe whenever I'm in a pawn shop and I see an old weapon with history sitting in the rack. My stepbrother lost one of my grandfathers guns he inherited, a 1912, Model 1894 that he pawned for beer and lost the slip. What a jackass. Keep it in the family & Enjoy! I have my grandmothers 1908, M92 in .25-20, my father in-law's 1910, M94 30 WCF, and my dad's 1952 M94 30-30.

I have an old photo of my Grampa and his buddies after a successful Deer hunt in Utah. I would guess the photo dates to the 1930's. Every rifle I can see is either a M 94 Winchester and maybe a Krag borrowed from the American Legion. An other photo from 1952 clearly shows several M 94's as well. Not a Scope in sight but those Guy's had no trouble filling there Deer tag's.

Every gun guy should have one in the safe, if not behind the seat in the truck.

Got the slotted plug screws – happy with that look.
Couldn’t find an ID on the sling – look what was hiding under the keeper – Looks like “GD” above an “H”.
Anyone recognize the make of this?
