Thought I found a unicorn...but...it's not. Listed for sale as a S&W 25-7. Still a cool gun. Simply not worth the price the seller is asking.

looks like a 25-7, but all the ones I've seen have been matte finished. I bought a super rare S&W the other day. Not everyone's cup of tea, but found a 586 factory chambered in 38 special. A overrun of a model produced for the Brazilian government.

A little too shiny to be a dash seven. But what is it? An aftermarket LC cylinder fitted to an original acp? Then engraved to be a clone?

S&W medallion is on the wrong side to begin with so pre ‘82 frame.
Gloss finish applied to the 25-7 cylinder and barrel.
Older guns don’t have the endurance parts and that caused problems with the unfluted cylinders. This was fixed by 25-7.
Orange insert added.
Could be a really nice gun but....
I sent a message asking what model was stamped on the frame.
Well see what they say.

Ran up on a 25-5, 45 Colt, a few years back with a custom unfluted 45 ACP cylinder. The only 45 ACP S&W revolver I've played with that would fire my taper crimped paper punching handloads without moon clips with no problems. The others all required moon clips for proper headspacing.

I would like to see an up close pic of the stamp under the crane. Then zoom in to see if a "dash seven' was added to complete the clone. Intriguing...

Might make the gun useless under adversity if shells drop to deep for firing pin to reach. Possible oversize chambers? Was there a manufacturing presumption moon clips always available? What’s the history? David Bradshaw

Sloppy chambers. I had a 625 PC (with the funky red, white and blue grip panels) that wouldn't consistently fire factory ammo without moon clips.
Have never had a problem with the Aux cyl in my FA97 - it gobbles up everything.
FWIW,
Paul

Bradshaw whilst I’ve never experienced it myself there are many many claims of FTF when using ACP Cartridges on various S&W revolvers manufactured from somewhere in the 1980’s forward! Have heard rumors that S&W doesn’t even quaranty clip less loading to fire

1987 Unicorn... Product Code matches up to a 5" Blue, Unfluted Cylinder, 25-7....VERY VERY rare gun...
It does however have a set of aftermarket grips...probably from SILE... Where it says SB would be Square Butt and being a 1987 would probably have a standard set of S&W Target stocks...
