I'm thinking of making a front sight ramp from stainless bar stock. Does anyone know which alloy would be a good match for the color of a Ruger Blackhawk stainless barrel? Doesn't have to be the exact same stuff, just a good color match.
Thanks, Dutch

Don’t know what alloy was/is used for hardware such as sight bases, extractor housing, grip frame, but the stuff all looks the same. There is no reason, for instanvce, to used the higher tensile alloy for lesser parts. (Hammers, trigger, lockwork, are high tensile and through-hardened, as is the frame. Ronnie Wells knows these various alloys. Stainless alloys have a cool TINT, whereas nickel has a warm tint. Chrome and hard chrome have a cool tint. Sterling silver has a warm tint. David Bradshaw

David Bradshaw Thank you. I guess the thing I should do is source some samples and see how they compare, before I start cutting.

Thank you for the kind offer. I was able to find some 316 stock on eBay. Little pieces don't cost much at all. I think the big dealers sell their off-cuts because it's better than sending them off for scrap recycling.
