NM flattop in .44 Special I just picked up mated with Ronnie’s original Keith-Croft No. 5: The plan: 1) Install a Power Custom Bisley hammer and trigger. Ronnie’s No. 5 copy takes the standard Blackhawk trigger (as opposed to the Bisley) 2) Add a Belt Mountain #5 basepin 3) Perform a trigger job 4) Fit American walnut grips which Ronnie will blank out. I have some nice slabs and mailed him a few this morning. 5) Refinish the gun Assorted parts: Ronnie’s gripframe was a joy to install. The top of the rear humps blended perfectly into the frame – no filing required. As expected, the sides of the humps and rails above the trigger guard needed flushed. In all, it took less than 15 minutes to achieve dead-on fit. If you haven’t tried a RDW gripframe, I encourage you to visit his website at rwgripframes-com.3dcartstores.com/-Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time"

I can't wait to see more of this! The Flattop in 44 Spec is my favorite, and I'm really hoping one day to score one. Fermin has the makings of a great one, just too rich for my budget. Maybe one day...

A Keith No. 5 .44spl project wouldn’t be complete without Elmer’s bullet. I always wanted an original Hensley & Gibbs 503 mold, but those I found were always priced high (and rightfully so). Luckily, Mihec Previc duplicated the H&P with his HG 503. I’ve shot MP bullets before and love how they perform. But this is the first time I’ll cast from one of his blocks. If they drop as good as the mold looks, I’ll be a repeat customer. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time"

Clean the heck out of the mold as the coolant he uses is hard to remove.

Clean the heck out of the mold as the coolant he uses is hard to remove. I've heard that. I always pre-heat my molds with a propane torch (the key is to keep the flame moving over the mold). That usually removes any of the solvents. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time"

I find boiling in water with just a drop or two of dish soup then over fill the pan to flood the crud away. You will be amazed at the stuff that floats off.

I have 2 of those molds for my #5 and they are fantastic molds to cast from. They seem a little happier with the lead a touch hotter than alum but with 2 of them I can make a pile of bullets in a hurry with a very low percentage of reject bullets. Honestly I have found it to be my most accurate 44 cal bullet from mild to wild speeds.

It is the bullet that we shoot out of our 44 specials and medium 44 magnums. Wonderful pork parker. I wish I had one mold throwing solids and one throwing hollow points.

No surprise the mold cast beautifully. I sprayed the cavities with brake cleaner and let them air dry. Then prior to casting, I heated the blocks with a propane torch. After 3 pours, or 12 bullets, they dropped perfectly. Left - as cast, Right - powder coated and sized I also fit the Power Custom hammer and trigger to the gun. Following a slight alteration to the transfer bar, they worked flawlessly. And I forgot these kits make the gun half-cock. Next up is refinishing the steel. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time"

Mihec's aluminum #503 rains bullets without the weight of brass.
