Yeah that was the names. Did a right proper job on the research. But I agree, times have changed and the stuff we have today is much better

My first carry gun was my 3” SP 101 .357. It was a while ago and I can’t remember what brand I carried but it was a 158 grain JHP because that’s what shot to the sights.

9.5 of HS6 behind Remington's 158 soft nose JHP. It goes 1,050 from my 2.5" Model 66. Expands nicely in wet newspaper. -Lee www.singleactions.com "Chasing perfection five shots at a time"

I was told by a LEO friend to use factory ammo in my concealed carry rig, If you use it against a perp .... they get you in court they will say handloads are illegal to use. You will go to jail my friends(Kansas law).

To be on the safe side go with Factory, but non LEOs are not under that restriction. No cases that I know of where the non LEO used a handload and was penalized in a court setting for doing so. But I'm not the last word on the issue. Research! Look up Massad Ayood, leading lethal force instructor in US for Police.

But I'm not the last word on the issue. Research! Look up Massad Ayood, leading lethal force instructor in US for Police. ***** There’s a lot of commercial ammo which I consider gray market----unknown origin. No telling the hours days years I’ve packed handloads without a thought. I know the rounds have a flash hole, which I must trust to be so on factory. Some folk should NOT carry their handloads! As a simple minded person, it’s easy for me to see ammunition loaded for tournament, hunting, and carry in the same light---- ready to do the do. In accord with my simple-minded approach, I try to shoot like I mean business. Which doesn’t leave room for plinking. Adjustnents are made according to circumstance and adversity, not theory. The argument for carrying FACTORY is sound. I won’t tell someone else what to do. Anyone in doubt of his or her ammunition must remove all doubt with ammo from a proven manufacturer. Whether factory or handload, carry ammunition must be fired in the gun before the two get married in a holster. David Bradshaw

Well put David. I consistently load two loads for my 357s, 44s, and 45s. They all shoot to within two inches of each other in their various calibers at 20 yds. My 357 loads are a 1.5 grain difference in 2400 from the other but same bullet and primer. One is for Kimber K6 which will shoot either, but more comfortable with the lighter load and the Ruger GP just motors along with either.

After reading Bradshaw's post, I realized that gun people, especially handgun people like us are not the norm. It's nothing to me to shoot 30-50,000 rounds a year between practice, load developments, steel challenge, hunting, and just plain fun. But most people don't shoot that much in their entire life. I have a gun within reach almost all the time. Some people still have the same box of ammo less a few rounds that came with the gun years later.

I AM a former Texas LEO and SWAT officer, not to mention my tours in the Sandbox. I did not retire LEO but have many years of having my a.. tail kicked in training so it didn't get kicked on the street. I have NEVER in my LIFE, EVER heard of handloads being brought up in court. As Mr. Bradshaw states, I am NOT the definitive source of all things legal, but I HAVE had my tail in the Oak Chair and had my judgements criticized that I had .2 seconds to make and act on, then some three piece suit has 18 MONTHS to tear apart. "If" I have to put a bullet in someone's center mass, BELIEVE ME; it is not the bullet that killed them. It is the person behind the trigger who has been backed into a corner and REFUSES to roll over just to advert being criticized by some non-combat warrior. I do have the paperwork to prove it at request.
My trainer at Ft. Bragg called me "Mother F***er" the entire time I was there. The name stuck. I am still called Trey MF Meyer and even my kids put it on a ball cap for me. It is not an insult. I EARNED it and I stand by it. Question is... Do you TRUST your handloads enough to stake your life on them? I trust my weapons, my handloads and exactly 8 people in the world to defend my family's life. I am one of the 8. Where are you (relatively) in your life?

Bigbore5, Any chance you are in somewhere central Texas? I do believe you would be a great teacher to help me hone my skills. I dont think I have fired 50,000 rounds in my life much less a year. I am being serious, I would love to have you teach me how to get better. I really do need a range mentor / teacher / shooting companion. A couple folks here know I am genuine if you do happen to live within reasonable driving distance.
