Looking for a set of stainless rings for the used rifle I bought for a project... looks like they are almost exclusively sold as singles... saw a question answered on one site, where the seller said they are sold as singles, as you need a different height between the front & rear ring... even Ruger only sells them as singles ( I would think if they weren't the same height, they would sell them in matched pairs, as one front, & one rear ) can anyone confirm this, or explain why they are only sold as singles???

Yep singles, can’t explain. Also can’t explain why there is only a medium height 30mm and no low. Trying to mount a low magnified scope on a rifle but cannot mount it low enough to be used without a cheek riser on the butt.
I think the reason for singles is due to Ruger was not consistent in what was needed on each gun, some use equal sized rings and some need different sized, it’s very confusing.

They used to sell them in pairs years ago. I have a set of KD71H that came as a pair. The short ring measures 7/16" from the bottom of the ring to the receiver. The tall ring measures 9/16". They are for a 77MKII. If your are working with a MKII, I would sell the pair to you for $50.00 shipped USPS Priority Flat Rate. The packaging is damaged, but they have never been mounted. These are for one inch tubes and will work for up to 52mm objectives. k2nd

Yes they are. Your rifle originally should have shipped with medium height rings, which are for scopes up to 42mm objectives. k2nd

Which is the front & which are the rear rings??? taller / shorter? OH my... just went to look at scopes & I don't think I've ever seen scopes this sold out... I like to look at Midway, because they give a lot of good info with the scopes... only one scope in stock that I would consider for this rifle in the 4-12X class... it happens to be a 1" tube... but most of my others have all gone to 30mm tubes...

Just a word of caution when using Ruger scope rings, they benefit greatly from lapping. Several scope manufacturers recommend doing so prior to tightening rings down, claim is the rings tend to have lots of high spots and do not sit square to the axis of the gun much. So much so that damage to the scope can occur, so lap the rings and verify squareness.

personally id recommend Warne’s version of the Ruger ring.

The No.1 rifles used matching height rings, the 77 never did.

I make sure to always ream and lap Ruger rings. If you don't, they can ruin your scope quickly. I actually at least lap all my new scope rings. Just a habit of mine.
