I learned to shoot as a small kid with the 6” 686 so it will always have a place at my house.

I know I will get roasted for this but I never appreciated the 357 for the great cartridge it is. I killed my first Oregon Blacktail buck with a 38 Special then jumped right to the 41 mag. I had a python for a year or so but other than that, every 357 has been purchased with the intent of getting converted to something else. I don’t even have any 357 reloading components, dies or bullet molds if I found a first magnum to put in the safe. I have come around to your way of thinking, Robb. I have owned several 357s over the years but I think the 41 mag is a better all around cartridge than the 357. I used to think everyone needs at least one good 357 and I have exactly one... an OM 357 BH. But I think after I shoot up all the 38 Spl and 357 mag ammo in the house I will have it converted to 41 Special. I can still pick a favorite 357, though. It has to be the 4" GP100 I sold my brother several years ago.

Sentimental favorite is a Stainless 4” Security Six, that I have had since 1986 or 87. It was my only revolver for several years. A new comer is a Kimber K6S double action only. Another likable one is 3” S&W 686 +1 Deluxe 3”. I also like my wife’s 686 +1 in the 4”.
I have not given the 357 much attention in many years. I do like the cartridge though, and many of the revolvers.

My favorite is my 2.5" Model 19, it travels on my hip anytime I head for town. It's starting to look a bit sorry after 15 years of carry but it has been a faithful friend.

Mine would be a 5" model 27. I gave mine to my nephews. I never give someone a gun that is not prized by me. I no longer shoot that caliber, but if I did, I would use a model 27 five inch.

Although being a devout Single Action fan, ironically my favorite .357 is my SS Security Six. It just carries, points, and shoots so well. Next would be a 3 screw BH that a customer of mine traded to me. I've got several 3 screws but that one for some reason is the one I find myself reaching for when I want to shoot a SA.

Double or Single action. I Agree with Jerry Miculek, My Favorite all around Revolver cartridge is the .357 Magnum. I have owned many many of them through the years. Pythons Model 19s New and old Model Blackhawks. The 1st hand gun i ever bought in about 1981 was a 6"model 686. I have never owned an n frame, that I can recall. But my Favorite all around General purpose .357 Magnum is My 5" GP 100 Davidsons edition. It Has great balance is built like a tank, Smooth in double action crisp and light in single action, More accurate than i can shoot it. It's weakest point is concealability. Unless you are wearing a trench coat it is Shoulder holster or inside the pants only. (if you are as small as I am.) I have a Chest rig coming from Mike that i plan to use as an under the arm vertical holster around town. But it is a winter only set up. But there is nothing in Oregon, a hand gunner could not do with that gun. Clearly it is light for Elk Hunting, But It could be done in a pinch. With a Hot loaded 180 grain Bullet, a head shot would probably Kill just about anything. In Grizzly country, I would take something bigger, But even then a squarely placed head shot stands a good chance of saving your behind, Squarely hitting a moving Grizzly's round head is not a challenge i would welcome. But I think i will test MY GP against my model 19 this weekend. Both are great guns, But I would load any listed load or shoot any Factory loaded round through the Ruger without any hesitation. Not so the K frame ! ...tj THERE ARE ONLY TWO .357 DA SIXGUNS: THE ORIGIANL AND ALL OTHERS.

I’m going to have to give a shout-out to my 4.2” adjustable sights SP101. A revolver that was any bigger would make me want a bigger bore - a revolver any smaller would be uncomfortable to shoot. The packability vs shootability of it really makes it a go-to for me - it’s in a sweet spot between a J and K frame. Loaded with .38 Spls makes it a real pleasure for my wife to carry/shoot, yet it’s still capable to handling heavy .357 if you want a small yet viable woods gun. It’s just really practical.

Impression set of DW's. I put a 3" barrel on my Model 15 (still have the 4" that came with it too). -Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time"

Since this is my one an only 357, it must be my favorite. It’s a 5 screw, 5” bbl pre Model 27 with Coke’s. It also has the correct box to go along with it. Stone me if you will, but I never cared that much for the 357. Blame it on that little guy from Idaho. Tom Black

Only DA .357 I have left, my 4" GP100 I do plan on picking up a 4 5/8" Blackhawk one day but I've got other priorities ahead of it for now.

I’m struggling with this thread. I probably have over twenty 357 mag revolvers and I can’t pick one that sticks out as my favorite. I really like the 686. It was the gun that got me addicted to S&W revolvers. Maybe some K frame love too And maybe these guys that started their lives as 38 specials
