End your auction at least a week later on a Sunday night. Don't have it end on a holiday or the Super Bowl or something. lol Probably best to avoid holiday season all together? I got one or two good deals over the years bidding and winning things while "most folks" must have been doing other things, like on Christmas eve.

I agree with the sunday night ending. I am on eastern time, and I now realize that it is best for me to list later in the evening, so that people out west have a chance to get home from work and eat dinner before the auction ends.

So the guy that bought my gun on jan 1 just reached out to me. He said he has never used a money order before, and doesn’t know how to do one. He also asked if I could do a cheaper form of shipping. I just emailed him the gunbroker article on shipping, and explained to him that this was all in my description. Will I ever get an experienced buyer? I can’t believe that I have to explain to someone old enough to buy a gun, how to fill out a money order. I hope he knows where the post office is.

Have been on GB since 2002 and bought and sold several hundred guns and tons of accessories and ammo. Have had only a couple of glitches as a Buyer or Seller in all that time.
A friend has a shop not far from me. He is in the process of retiring and I finally convinced him to let me put all his guns of GB on the account he has there... I posted about 125 guns starting just in October...there are 13 left. Many sold a for a LOT more than he was asking in the shop. He dropped his use of CCs about two years ago...he had no problem with people sending him checks. There were about 6 NR new to GB Buyers who backed out of their bids... No big deal to relist and "F" their Feedback.
As to funds...I've been in business since 1979. At one time I had a full shop and ammunition business...have never had ONE bad personal check....not one. Also prefer personal checks because if they are lost they can be easily cancelled and new check sent... Ever loose a USPS MO in THEIR system...takes 60 days to get a refund.
And as said above...when dealing with UPS and FedEx you can insure something for $10K but paying for the insurance and getting your money out of them are two different things. My dealer friend no longer uses either and ships all his handguns and long guns USPS. He had custom rifles destroyed in shipping by both and had to fight them for months to get a full refund...and these were packed to the point someone had to run over them with a truck to damage them...
I've found it a great tool...will be interesting to see how the sales tax works out in the long run...Bob

No response since my inquiry. When my USFA sells I suppose I'll get a lesson. I am baffled by the absence of communication. Is it true that E-bay owns GB? True as in fact, not heresay.

I just got off the phone with a guy I got some ammo from who is a gun shop and sells regularly on GB. On January 1 he sold a 4K Weatherby. He does not use the immediate checkout function. At no point did GB come in and put sales tax on that transaction. Where it may bite someone is when you get your monthly invoice, THEN they hit you. RJM thank you for that info. I read a story in Readers' Digest once about a guy that rented fishing rods at the beach, no ID required. Someone asked aren't you worried about someone stealing your rods? He responded "They say seventy five percent of the people in the world are honest, I guess the rest don't fish."

I think that when you mark payment received, they update your statement. I am still waiting for payment, but will let you know what happens.

Response from GB
Since the Wayfair Supreme Court decision, states have been allowed to force sellers to collect sales tax for items sold into a state even if the seller has no physical presence in that state. Additionally, some states have enacted so called Marketplace Facilitator laws in an effort to force marketplaces that perform certain functions to collect sales tax on behalf of the marketplace’s sellers. Beginning January 1, 2020, GunBroker.com will be collecting and remitting sales tax on all sales by all sellers who sell items into certain states.
What is a Marketplace Facilitator? Each state has its own definition of a Marketplace Facilitator, but in general a Marketplace Facilitator is an entity that provides a forum for sellers to promote their sale of physical property, digital goods, and services whether or not the forum is the actual seller of the items.
What are Marketplace Facilitator Laws? Marketplace Facilitator laws are a set of state laws that shift the sales tax collection and remittance obligations from the individual seller to the Marketplace Facilitator. In states that consider GunBroker.com to be a Marketplace Facilitator, GunBroker.com will have to calculate, collect and remit state sales tax on goods and services sold by third party sellers for transactions destined to states where a Marketplace Facilitator law has been enacted.
What does this mean to me?
As a Buyer: If your state is a GunBroker.com MPF State, your state requires Marketplace Facilitators to collect and remit sales tax on items you purchase, so you will be required to pay the tax due for your purchases on GunBroker.com. The tax amount will be included on your order during checkout.
As a Seller: GunBroker.com will calculate and bill you for the sales tax due on each of your items sold to buyers in the GunBroker.com MPF States. This tax calculation will be based on the Ship To address on the order. The calculation will include sales tax for the item plus any additional taxes imposed by that state on other things such as shipping or handling.

I pay sales taxes on my knives that I sell to people in Michigan. I do it because I treat my knife making as a business. I also deduct business expenses (steel, grinding belts, etc.) from my taxes. So, for me, it's proper that I pay sales taxes. I don't pay sales taxes on my knives that sell out of state.
It will be interesting to see how GB handles it.
