Some fresh bison hump seared in butter, on cast iron, over an open fire, with fresh hot coffee. Good start to a long butchering job

That's a fine hunt,, and the rewards will be remembered for a LONG time. Excellent eating,, and yes,, I know a LOT of work goes in to butchering a critter of that size,, no matter where it's done.
KUDOS!

Took place in SW ND. It’s crazy how much spine there is and it’s hard to appreciate how big that hump is. Vertebrae are dang near 2 feet long in the neck. My 4 year old is into dinosaurs and I showed him that picture and told him we shot a spinosauras and you should have seen how big his eyes got!

I believe he is getting it mounted and a euro scull to go with it.

Will that slightly used Punch bullet fit in your JRH ? Am thinking you should shoot another critter with it.

Punch bullet measures 452 before and after the shot! It still has some life left for sure.

lazycross.... fine series. Is the rifle a Knight Rolling Block? Barrel looks short. And, in that revealing photo of the shot, with fireball, is the distance foreshortened by a long camera lens? Did trajectory cause the low hit? David Bradshaw

Nice looking bull... I've shot one with a 45-70 before, but not black powder... they are big beasts, great to have a tractor with a strong loader to gut & skin... Mine... been 8-10 years ago though... sure do miss that meat... BTW... the hearts are outstanding cut into strips & marinated in Itallian dressing in a zip lock for 24 hours, then grilled we had a hard time getting the herd to leave the shot animal... they kept nudging it for over a half hour trying to tell it to get back up... My muzzleload hunter is a Knight Rolling Block... until I borrowed it to a friend for a Colorado Elk hunt it had only killed White Tail Deer... but he got this decent Elk 2 years ago, with my rifle...

Did trajectory cause the low hit? David Bradshaw Camera was nothing more than my iPhone. I had a video and I took a screenshot of one frame for the fireball. Trajectory probably had some effect. Unfortunately we could only practice with a few punch Bullets due to limited supply. I’ll ask on the rifle. Wasn’t a fancy one. Just a cheap one. I had my .54 hawkin on standby!

When my ol lady saw the photos her first reaction was "look at the meat on those ribs! When are you going hunting for one of those?" Gotta love her! When I used the restroom at a grocery store the other day, I came out and she was reading a gun magazine wearing a pink camo hat and a camo carhartt jacket. Too dang cute!
