Just traded for a 1958 Vintage, model 19 no -. The Single action Trigger pull is super light. I have not fired it yet but will soon. Can I increase the pull weight with the little screw in the front of the grip frame ? ...tj

No that should always be screwed tightly. Simply remove the grips and put a new stock main spring in it. What barrel length? I had a nickel 19-3 2.5” loved it carried it had to sell it that sucked:)

It has nothing to do with trigger. To increase single action letoff, install heavier TRIGGER REBOUND SPRING. But, before you do that, check STRAIN SCREW (at toe of frontstrap). The strain screw sets MAINSPRING tension. S&W intends strain screw to be screwed in until firmly seated; this is to prevent the vibration of shooting from loosening strain screw. Thus, mainspring pressure is meant to be adjusted by filing tip of strain screw to reduce excess pressure. In practice, I adjust the strain screw and leave it. Experimented in my twenties with----having adjusted strain screw----ignoring the adjustment. The strain screw loosened on the Model 19 to the point of light primer strikes in double action. (Sooner than on M-29.) In practice I am aware of TRIGGER REBOUND pressure. An armorer would tighten the strain screw and not fuss subtleties of rebound pressure. Light single action letoffMay be caused by a fugitive trigger job. If the case hardening of hammer and/or trigger is compromised by dressing engagement surface(s) with a stone, wear will soon cause the trigger to kick forward at hammer fall. If this is the cause of light single action letoff, trigger kick or rebound will cause the trigger to catch the DOUBLE ACTION FLY (double action sear) at hammer fall. David Bradshaw

Thank you ! i will not mess with the screw , I will shoot it this weekend to see if it goes bang consistently. I just put some snap caps in and dryfired , no forward kick of the trigger with the hammer fall. Nor do I detect the hammer doing anything other than going all the way down. I have a pkg on the way from Midway, with a set of Pachmyer Gripper grips. And I will look at a schematic and at the main spring tension screw. I Like the Pachmyer grippers on a potential fighting gun, And this being a 4 inch , It might well get carried some. ...tj
