Here's a sweet little Ruger: www.gunbroker.com/item/886691632Gonna be much easier finding a ready to go 7x57 blued than it will in SS. But any SS Long action with .308 boltface will lend itself to conversion

Since I'm spending your money and not mine, you could buy a blued one and have it hard chromed.

A quick look at the Savage lineup I do like the looks of the Brush Hunter & the Scout rifles... ( Brush Hunter I'm only seeing in 375 Ruger, & the Scout only in 450 Bushmaster... not fond of the "looks" of the Scout stock, but the detach magazine might be interesting ) will have to pull out my cartridge book, & see what all shares the same bolt face, & may work without excessive magazine customization Sounds like a WTB on the Ruger forum is in order, and be ready to pay what they go for. Thankfully the sporter stocks aren't hard to come by for the MKII actions. I grew up hunting with an old M77 in 7 Mauser. Good do-all round with excellent bullets in the 120-160 grain weights depending on your needs. IIRC our old load was a 140 grain Sierra Game King.

I might know of a stainless full stocked Ruger in 7x57, just about new condition.

So... FIL started this collection, was bigger than life, and full blood Czech... we live in MRS family century farm, and her dad was born in this house ( he didn’t die here ) but I often feel his “presence” ( in a good way ) tonight I was clearing a back corner of the basement, where his loading bench / work bench is / was ( he also did stained glass work on it )... it’s been sitting pretty much as he left it... been quite a while now... I felt his “presence” again tonight... I don’t think he would think that I should leave the work bench there, as I’ve pretty much moved all the gun stuff to the 2 room walk in gun safe room ( I think he would like that ) and MRS is ready to do something with that corner of the basement... I do think he was maybe nudging me towards the CZ rifle... Maybe more about that hard chrome finish

To find something in 7X57 in Stainless will definitely be a stretch. Yuu will probably have to do a rebarrel, but that's not so bad either. I was bitten by the 7mm Mauser bug about 4 years ago. I found a good 'ol Mauser Mark X in "06 and sent it off to Mcgowan to be rebarreled in said caliber, with a 24" barrel. This one didn't have the adjustable trigger so a Timney was called into the action. With a 7mm Mag and a 280 Remington mountain rifle in the stable one would wonder why such an expensive "fix" to a non existent problem? I think the answer is clear, that's if, you have a 7x57or long to have another. I myself, if stainless was wanted, would go with a stainless Remington, Winchester or Ruger and do a rebarrel. Now you went and done it............Got me thinking again!!! Just for the record I did this rifle in 2016 and it has accounted for 3 deer in next three years. 2019 found me in the field with a 6.5 caliber and this year a ER Shaw rebarreled late 1960's era Savage 110, from a 243 to a Shaw screw in barrel in 358 WCF. Now there's another near and dear to my heart. crash87

thinking about a couple options right now... My 1st choice is a CZ 550 American already chambered in 7 Mauser, & sending it off to be hard Chromed... 2nd choice, is get a boat paddle Ruger M77 Stainless in a compatible bolt face, & do a 7 Mauser stainless barrel swap... then can change the inserts for fancy wood ( my Stainless M77 Boat paddle 243 has Spalted Maple inserts ) pictured below left side center in this older ( before the big sell off ) picture 3rd choice would be a similar Bolt Action in 7 Mauser & send it out to be hard Chromed... This is a NOS CZ in 7 Mauser... would make a great rifle, but if it goes over $1000.00 could start pushing my budget by the time I got a good scope & had the rifle Hard Chromed www.gunbroker.com/item/887081722Something like this Ruger would likely end up about the same money, when all done, but it would be stainless www.gunbroker.com/item/887158391hmmm... decisions Older picture of my 243... center on the left...

Well I bought a stainless Ruger M77 boat paddle in .270 today... so looks like I need to buy a good 7mm stainless barrel and chamber for 7mm Mauser
I already talked to Zane at LSCG... he has not made inserts in the past, but thinks he might be willing to make me a set of fancy wood ( I already have one of these rifles in 243, with some spalted maple inserts
These have controlled round feed... the long action should handle any bullets I want to load in the 7 Mauser cartridges... the Ruger action can handle the Magnum cartridges, so strong enough to take any published load... my previous early Mauser required some caution on the hotter loads

Never seen wood inserts in a boat paddle before. I like them. Swapped a boat paddle onto my guide rifle because I didn't like the overmold it came with. Since I have retired the gun from it's getting beat around in canoe bottoms and such I just might have to talk to him about some inserts too. Thinking maybe some walnut burl I have could probably make those and the set for the Missus.41.

Just bought this Flame Maple board... 80" X 8.5" X 15/16" Kiln Dried to 6-8% Moisture... it aught to make some nice inserts for my rifle... maybe even a few revolver grips???

Thanks... 8' is way more than I'd need, but I've got a little collection of "wood" started... 3 pieces of highly figured walnut, a couple other pieces including a highly figured piece of KOA wood... some other less figured Quilted Maple... I thought this Flame Maple was incredible... this picture lost a lot of it's 3D / holographic properties being digitally transferred through my programs... & was not even wetted for pictures... just how it looked with a planed finish... can't wait to see that one in person... the back is supposed to have a tornado looking figure to it, some of which may actually work better for handgun grips than this sides flame pattern... the most semi local shop that I'd actually call gunsmiths... has agreed to do the work for me, but they are out 5-6 months right now... but I at least got my name on the list... this is the base rifle I bought ( had to give $50.00 more than I had hoped ) but the .270 should be a perfect base rifle for this build... it has black inserts right now ( my .243 had OD Green ) not sure of the years of manufacture difference... but the flame wood will look great as inserts... saw no pictures or mention of the factory rings, so I'll need to source a set of those... my barrel is supposed to be here tomorrow...
