Interesting that this 10mm topic came up, I just bought a new 10mm Kimber Eclipse. I'm not much of a semi auto guy but I just wanted one because. Right at the last minute I tried to change my order & get the Kimber 6" Longslide but it was too late. Anyway, I've had the gun for 3 days now & had lots of failures to feed. The loads will drop in my gauge, they will drop right in my barrel doing the "plunk" test, length is 1.250" oal, for the most part. I've moved it around a little bit. Crimp has been changed a bit, but they drop right in the barrel. I've tried a 180 gr TC cast bullet, a 155 gr Hornady XTP, a Hornady 200 gr XTP, no luck!! The only bullet that will SOMETIMES feed is my 160 gr cast RN Ballisticast bullet. So, I'm down to the feed ramp as the culprit, what say you semi experts? I don't have any factory ammo but these bullets should chamber. When I single load them they are fine but it's frustrating when this new Kimber is jamming almost every round. The loads "almost" feed, but not quite. Again, the 160 gr RN bullets are almost 100%. None of the bullets are deforming, I'm a little ticked off. My Kimber 45 Gold Match shoots anything I put in it. Dick Is there a decent 1911 smith in your area that could maybe help you out? I was Considering buying that same gun next. I have the urge to buy a few 10mm’s to go with my delta elite. I really don’t want a long slide since I want it for packing or the house. If I had the same problem I have a local gunsmith that would solve the problems. He’s built a few IPSC guns for me back years ago. I’m interested to see how it turns out. I have some of your 160gr RN you sent me a few years ago. I was going to load up soon. What’s your load?

Hello Woody, I really think its a lubrication problem, I took it apart again & cleaned it a second time & used a lighter oil & it is cycling better now. I thought I had some of Brian Enos's Frog Lube but haven't found it, it always works in cold weather & that's what I've been fighting the last few days. I really like the gun, it sure has a nice trigger. Oh, my oldest son is a very good gunsmith, he's built some very fine USPSA guns. I'll be selling 2 of them in the next few days for a lady whose husband was one of my best friends. He fell over dead from a heart attack on opening day of deer season 2 years ago & I've been helping her sell off some of his stuff. Neither gun is even broken in. One my son built & is an open gun, 38 Super, the other is a factory STI Limited 40. I don't think my buddy ever shot either one in a match.

Dick...from what you describe, my guess would be the same as seminolewind...extractor/breechface problem. I've only had one 1911 with a problem like this a long time ago. It was a then new Colt Defender in .45 ACP that was doing the same thing. I reprofiled and tuned the extractor that took care of most of the problem but the gun ended up going back to Colt as it was apparent the breechfase cut was not done correctly...came back and has ran 100% since...
Did you get the adjustable or fixed sight version of the Eclipse? I've always thought they were a hansom gun.
Going to Connecticut tomorrow for Christmas with the family. Hope to shoot the new Kimber Long Slide this weekend while down there...

Dick, I got me a 10mm a couple months ago - been testing it out... So far, I’m liking it. It packs real well as a hunting handgun and used within its limitations, it’s proving to be effective.

Makes things a lot easier I’m sure. I need to get one of my boys to do that. But a little young yet. Sorry to hear about your buddy. I know A few guys that have had heart attacks deer hunting. I wish the 38 super wasn’t an open gun. My next purchase is going to be a single stack 38 Super.

Got to shoot the Kimber LS along with the PARA-USA Hunter a few days ago. Group size at 10 and 25 yards were about the same for both. The trigger on the PARA is just a few ounces lighter than the Kimber.
Ran three different rounds through the guns.
200 grain Hardcast 165 grain plated 165 grain Gold Dot HPs
Only bobbles were with the 200 HC in the Kimber. Once a magazine the gun just didn't quite go into battery. Everything else ran like a top. Only shot 15 or so rounds through the Kimber with the 200s, 5 in a magazine, so hopefully with a few more rounds down the pipe the gun will start to feed the HC 100%...

Woody, I'm loading that bullet with 9.0 grs of Longshot in the 10mm & I like it. Haven't shot very many yet because of the weather but I have quite a few loaded. I have shot many, many thousands of them in my 610 revolvers in 40 S&W cases using WST. For steel matches I used 3.7 grs of WST with that 160 gr bullet & in USPSA matches I used a Ballisticast 205 gr RN with that same load of 3.7 grs of WST to make major power factor. That gun & load kept me #1 in the nation in "A" class revolver for 14 months back around 2005.

Thanks. I have a few pounds of longshot. I will try some tomorrow. Also have some 180gr cast I will load up too. I shot A 40 for USPSA for years and loved universal under a 180 gr cast but I’m all out of Universal Clays. So I’m going to load up the 180’s in the 10mm. Not sure what powder I will use.

Are the Ruger 10mm using a ramped barrel?

Are the Ruger 10mm using a ramped barrel? IIRC, virtually all 1911s chambered in 9mm, 10mm, 40 S&W, and .38 Super used supported ramped barrels. The .45 ACP is virtually the only caliber that doesn't use a ramped barrel in standard configuration, due mostly to it's lower operating pressures.

I know Colt uses standard non ramped barrels in 9, 38 and 10mm.

Hello Everyone:
I bought a Ruger SR1911 about three years ago. I wanted a "do all" 1911 for a lack of a better term. Self defense as well as a woods gun. I like the ergonomics of the 1911 and carry it when I am in some of the more wilder places of New England.
The downsides to the Ruger SR1911:
1. It does not have a bushing. So you need that little paperclip to take it apart for cleaning and proper lubrication. Without the clip you can't break it down. Guess what got lost in a move? So I use a paperclip. I just hope it does not break and that spring is extended in the metal tube that rides under the barrel.
2. Lubrication. The gun needs to be somewhat clean and lubed properly. I was at a special shoot a while back and I did not clean my Ruger SR1911. It started to jamb and fail to feed rounds. I finished the shoot with a borrowed gun. It kind of stunk but it was a big lesson. Keep the gun clean and lubricated.
The Pros:
1. It is very accurate. It seems no matter what I put in the gun the groups are nice and tight. I found that the solid copper "Philips Head" tipped rounds from Underwood shoot exceptionally well. Although expensive they are my main " Oh crap there is a bear in the tent" round. That round shoots nice tight groups.
2. Again on the issue of accuracy. At "combat" range, I never had to adjust the sight. The Bo Mar style sight was never adjusted as all the rounds put through it shoot point of aim.
3. Best factory trigger. The gun is considered a target model so the trigger on mine is great. This is one gun I never had to send to a gunsmith for tuning of any kind.

Love those Underwood 140 grain Xtreme Penetrators... Have a Glock 40 longslide that I use for my anti-carjacking gun figuring it will punch through most any sheet metal or windshield glass. They are going 1600 fps from the 6" barrel...
