I considered having it made into a .50 Alaskan, and suppose I could have it re chambered later. It does have a long throat allowing bullets to be loaded long at max length.

I will say as much as I love No 1 rifles the stock configuration isn’t the best for recoil management, at least for my 6’4” 210lb frame. I have shot the tropical in 458 and 450NE and heavy loaded 45/70 versions before and there are certainly easier shaped stocks to shoot those big boomers in than a stock no 1 shape. Taking it up to a 50 Alaskan might play into those thoughts, at least for me. YMMV

I should give a shout out to the talented gunsmith that re-barreled the rifle. He got the barrel taper just right.
Lance Streets out of Powell WY. Lance was recommended to me by John Linebaugh at one of his shooting seminars. John's quote was "His work is perfect". So far I can't disagree.
Lance gave me permission to post his contact number here as a satisfied customer. He can be reached at 406-860-8490.

Now just spit balling an idea here but for the cost of the conversion couldn’t you do the same in a 50 Alaskan and have way more top end of you chose to go there? Same diameter bullet just way more case capacity behind it. Certainly could “down load” the Alaskan to 500 Linebaugh levels easy enough but you can’t go the other way... If the 50 Alaskan fits in a No 1 action I can’t say, I don't recall ever seeing this conversion done but I have seen No 1 in some pretty wild chamberings. That said it would be a fun gun to play, it would be a real thumper. Kelye here of Belt Mountain sold me his 50AK No 1 that Ben Forkin built for him. It’s extremely nice. I’ve loaded some 50AK, but only shot 500L out of it so far. Top end 45-70 are enough recoil and the 500L still kicks. There is not really any any need for 50 AK except it’s a cool round. 50 AK brass is a bit more expensive and it’s a little work getting 500L dies to load AK. Just kinda like getting a 45 Colt rifle instead of 454.

I've got Ruger #1s in 44 Magnum and 475 Linebaugh. The pistol calibers do well in rifle length barrels.
Plus, the falling blocks and break open guns don't share the lever guns C.O.A.L. issues.
The 44 Magnum loaded to 50k psi produces impressive energy...

Very nice...and having a rifle and a handgun in the same caliber simplifies things...
One set of dies, one shell holder, one size bullets and one kind of brass...and really since any of those rounds will kill anything that walks, how much more velocity does one need...

Back when things were simpler...! Never seen one of those! From what I remember he was offering the .505 gibbs on the 416 rigby m77 and a half dozen or so British calibers on the No. 1. Anything else good in the catalog?
