After having this packed away for 8 yrs I finally got around to shooting. 22” bbl. 1x4 Leupold, 400 grn LBT WFN plain w-wts. Sized .475” 14 grns HS-6
Shot very well as far as I’m concerned. Recoil was mild.
1” at 25 1-1/2” is so at 50. 1-1/2” high 1-1/2” at 70 dead on. 2” or less at 100. 3-1/2” low I wonder why I waited so long!! Hopefully I’ll stumble into a nice buck next week. Thanks Jim

I bought one of those too. Very nice gun to go along with 475 Linebaugh/480 Ruger Revolvers.
Mine shoots either ammo just fine...
Couple years back, I added the 44 Magnum Ruger #1 for the same reason.
I've petitioned Lipseys for a Ruger #1 in 454 Casull for those who enjoy rifle/revolver combos. So far, no luck...
Good luck on your hunt.

Axman, do you have a velocity to go with those groups?

Just got in from a morning hunt with my #1, although mine’s a 45-70. It also wears a 1x4 Leupold. Since I very rarely hunt with a rifle mine has never taken anything but paper and steel plates. Always thought one in .475 would be cool. In my opinion one of the best looking rifles ever built. Mine was a birthday gift from my wife several birthdays ago.

Axman, do you have a velocity to go with those groups? I haven’t checked it yet. I had seen the load listed around 1000fps out of a 5-1/2” revolver. It’d be a guess of maybe 1200?

Good info! Those 22" guns are very rare. I haven't shot mine yet and keep thinking I'll send it down the road one of these days. Only gun I have in 475 and hate to set up to reload for one gun.

Thanks for the offer Jim! I'll pass, only because I'll probably send this one down the road eventually. I love everything about the gun, just hate to have to inventory bullets, brass and dies for one gun, though if I did, it would probably be this one!

If you decide to send it down the road, I've got a close friend that is looking for one! He got bit by the bug due to one of the fellows that comes to the local shoot with a No 1 in 475. He shoots a Cast Performance 375grain loaded to 475 Max OAL with H-110 or 296, for 2035 fps over the chronograph.

John had some pressure data on a load for the No 1 that was a 400 at 2150 fps, with the bullet seated out to the 475 Maximum OAL. I don't remember what it was off my head. I do remember it wasn't a critical or unsafe load, but it was maximum or a bit over for pressures.
That is pretty good for a 1.4" case, duplicating the 450-400 Nitro Express

just hate to have to inventory bullets, brass and dies for one gun,! Think of it as diversity of opportunity in times like these, with shortages and supply issues.
