If a sack of .41 spc showed up at my house like that it would push me over the edge and a build would be commissioned.

Put together my retired tool and die buddies lathe and tooling for working the brass today ( at my fabricator buddies home shop ) 200 of the new 41 Special cases got the touch up at the web, 100 cases I had already had done the 1st step on the lathe a while ago and had gotten swaged down, got the head stamps removed, knurled and flattened, then parted off about .005” long, so they could be file trimmed to final length
Tonight, I’m filing them to final length, chamfering the case mouths, and wet tumbling them to remove any residual lube...
Thinking these 1st 100 are going to get XTP 180’s with 9 grains of AA#7... sometime this weekend

Loaded up 100 rounds today, after finishing the 1st - 100 cases... 50 with 180 grain XTP’s, and 50 with 180 grain lead 38-40 flat points... these will be the 1st rounds through the gun, since Dave Clements put the 1 st 6 rounds through at the end of the build
Have 200 rounds to swage down before going back to the lathe... going to take a while to get 1000 cases done

Already had a special collet made for the 1000 401 powermag cases I made last year... it fits the 10 mm Rimmed cases nicely as well... here shown removing .010" from the web... swaging the cases to 40 caliber pushes the brass towards the rim, by removing .010" OL from the base ( this is only trimmed at the solid head, nothing is removed from the sidewalls of the case, so the case is just as strong as new ) there is about the width I thin, that is taken up by the shell holder & tapered mouth of the die, so that area can't be swaged down... if I do it right, a very tiny ring of brass snaps off into this recess, during the swaging, which is formed from the brass flow, this ring is broken & removed during case prep with a dental pick Special tool here for knurling & flattening on the rim, to remove the headstamps flattening the knurl this process leaves the rims looking like this (this is a picture of the powermag cases, but the pattern is the result of the knurling & flattening process ) cutting the cases to rough length will add a picture of the little rings on my case prep center to show those ( forgot the camera when I was running those yesterday )

Nice pictures ,,, that lead me to a shot in the dark kind of question. How do you suppose it would work out to ream a short step in the cylinder to accommodate the raised web section ? Leave it kind of like a belted magnum . Seems like it could speed this and the 401 PM production up a bunch ,,,,,, AND you could name some wildcats yourself.

The 10mm Rimmed is already one of a kind, so if I would have thought of that & had the custom reamer "stepped" it would have been fine... however the chamber walls are already thin enough, that caution had to be used with the engraving on the cylinder... putting the steps in, would have likely left things thinner than I would have liked ( though Dave does build 41 special GP's, I'd suspect he would not recommend engraving the cylinders on those )... the 401 Powermag is actually an old Herters cartridge, so I could have made mine a wildcat, but I was really trying to duplicate as best I could the original case, for the custom cylinder I had made for my Buckeye revolver... just in case I ran across a collection of original Powermag cases ( I live pretty close to Waseca MN, & strange Herters stuff show up around here on occasion )
next challenge with the 10 mm Rimmed & custom GP-100, is seeing if I can get some speedloaders modified... I've not looked, but expect that on the factory 357 Magnum speedloaders that fit the chamber spacing, the walls are too thin to bore them out to 40 caliber... you guys have any suggestions??? if there were some 10 mm speedloaders out there, for the new factory guns, the holes wouldn't be big enough for the 41 caliber rims on the 10 mm Rimmed...

6 shots... 10 paces... 3” group... perfect sight regulation
Shot the lead loads ( 180 grain 38-40 bullets, round flat nose ) with 9 grains of AA #7
Picture in the morning
BTW... cases ejected super smoothly... no pressure signs on the cases or primers
MRS said it was really loud... personally I think somewhere between 38 Special, and 357 Magnum

now working on loading up some 155 grain HST hollow points... 150 cases done so far, & all loaded... riding in some Simply Rugged "gator" work have a couple aluminum 5 Star speedloaders coming this week, that I'm hoping will work, or can be modified to work with the 10mm Rimmed cartridge, & the GP-100 www.pistoleer.com/5star/speedloaders/41/otherwise also looking at 41 magnum speed strips...

To remove the original case headstamp these said Starline 41 Magnum... I’m not a fan of leaving a wrong original headstamp on. Case... when FIL died, I was to go though the gun collection... he had a lot of 223’s, and some 6X223 for a Contender barrel... pretty hard to tell the difference between those two, without a caliber... at least with the old headstamps removed, they won’t automatically be thrown in with 41 caliber
