I have two questions:
What grips do you prefer for an Encore that recoils hard?
How do you avoid the trigger guard from contacting your knuckles?

The factory rubber grip is pretty good on the hard kickers. A tight grip is the best way I have found to keep from getting bit the trigger guard.

Pachmayr made a nice replacement set. That’s what I have on my 50 Alaskan if I remember correctly

Pachmayr made a nice replacement set. That’s what I have on my 50 Alaskan if I remember correctly ***** For the Encore was that Pachmayr a Presentation or a Gripper? Pachmayr made both for the Contender. To my hand the Pachmayr Gripper is the best of all Grippers. David Bradshaw

Does it have a brake, and are you opposed to installing one?

It is gripper style.
Only ever had 2 Encore bites, one was a 338WM and a 500 S&W. Firm grip, if you hold loose, it will recoil hard into palm and get you. Worse than the FA ever bit.

The Pachmayr (available through the Lyman website) grip is the best of all in my opinion. Get it with the large forend. This hand grip is also best suited for a person like me with shorter fingers, since the standard Encore grip is best suited for a person with longer fingers. I don't know, but hope they are still availble new. The Contender Pachmayrs had several different iterations: short bolt, long bolt (which bent and broke on heavy recoilers, due to leverage), and Presentation and Gripper formats as David notes. This Encore Pachmayr is not the same as, but more closely resembles, the recoil properties of the Gripper IMO, David. Regarding the avoidance of knuckle busting:: 1. Firm but not crushing, grip. 2. Do not put the support hand finger behind the trigger guard spur. Rather, place it to the side of the spur, or lightly on the front of the spur. LIGHTLY.

I concur with the Pachmayr gripper grip. I have them on all my Contenders & Encores.
One thing I did do, was to gently grind parts of the rubber to better fit MY hands.
