I just committed to buy a buddies FA in 475 with a 480 ruger cylinder. What bullets should I be looking at? I don't cast my own.

Well not knowing you or your experience level all I will say is start mild before you go wild with the gun. A 350-380gr cast bullet at 800-1000fps will teach you about the gun and let you enjoy shooting it without developing a nasty flinch. You will eventually want to climb on the big bull of course and see what all the fuss about 425gr bullets at 1350fps, but without working up to these loads they are fearsome and often cause huge flinches and at time actually hurt the shooter I have a buddy who had he gun in a inexperienced friends hands come back and cut his forehead with the front sigh to the tune of 16 stitches.
If you have shot the big boomers for a while enjoy the ride since I am sure you can appreciate where I am coming from here.
I love my FA 480/475 and have run the gambit of power levels in it, today my working load is a 375gr bullet at 1050fps and my high consumption target load is the same bullet at 850fps. Either one would be more than sufficient for any whitetailed deer that ever walked the earth.

If you don't cast, I don't, Missouri Bullets PC'd bullet about the cheapest. Is a RNFP of 340 grs. In 480, on 8grs of Trail Boss, it goes 750-800fps.. Currently not being made. Tried to order another, maybe my 4 or 5 th box last week. Of their many molds, they are running only 14 total. The 480/475 bullet didn't make the cut. For a jacketed bullet, not crazy priced, for hunting, the Speer 325 gr SP to look at. Always need to know, what are your intended , hoped for, uses for this revolver ? Hard to give advice without knowing. I am thinking of giving Hawks bullets a try next, myself. If your gonna chase mini-van sized critters look at the Lehigh Defense 330gr WFN solid copper.

I would mostly be using it for deer, mt goats, and black bears. Brown bears and moose aren't off the table since I live in AK. I'm looking forward to getting this rig up and running

Sadly a poor time to be looking for components even. Even MidwayUSA has out of stock, no back order posted below 2/3 of their usual offerings. Was just on that site. Soo..you reload. What type bullets are you leaning toward ?

Lead or jacketed.... my FA`s 475 with an extra 480 cylinder shot them all good.... Once in Florida for a water buff hunt I shot Buffalo Bore`s 440gr EWN ammo at 100 from the bench and was given a cloverleaf... I could not make that group today but wanted to show what a shooter that FA`s can be... i was so excited that I wrote 425 instead of 440 on the target...... you have one heck of a handgun.... e...

I don't have the gun yet. Just committed to buy it. Waiting for him to ship it to me. So I likely won't have it for a couple weeks. Shipping to AK takes a while. It does come with some 400gr speer's and brass for both cylinders. Not really the kind of gun I'd ever buy if I didn't reload. Couldn't afford to buy ammo at the AK price, even if it wasn't an election year!
