My quirky attitude appears to be rubbing off on one of my buddies... he currently has a 22 TCM semi auto handgun, and a rifle ( a caliber similar to several I own, but I’ve not bought into yet ) he can’t get any 22 rim fire ammo right now, and he has decided to scope his 10-22 take down model, and has a gopher issue at home right now...
Today he asked me about all the cartridges I load Trailboss with, did I think he could down load his TCM bolt action rifle with Trailboss and get varying 22 rim fire velocities and minute of gopher accuracy’s???
I’m thinking it would work well at long and long rifle velocities... curious if any of you guys have used Trailboss in the small 22 Centerfires and or specifically the TCM

I've loaded Trail Boss with the 45gr Armscor bullet in the 5.7x28 Single Six
It's an accurate load. Although I haven't chronographed that particular load, my guess is 1300-1400 FPS

We have tried Trailboss in a .22 Hornet with the Lyman 225438 without the gas check on. Did not get the accuracy that was hoped for, was very mild and needs more work, not ready to give up on that one yet.

SR 4759, SR4756, and Trailboss, and believe it or not Titegroup (In the smallest cases -usually those based around the Hornet Case.) Have all worked for us for years to get 22 LR to 22 Mag velocities in our 17, 20, and 22 cartridges.

I’m thinking it would work well at long and long rifle velocities... curious if any of you guys have used Trailboss in the small 22 Centerfires and or specifically the TCM I generally love Trail Boss, but was disappointed by it in the 22 TCM. I had trouble getting those big doughnut flakes it past the small 22 caliber neck. Might have just been my powder funnel, but it was an annoyance. I used the 0.7cc LEE plastic dipper, which was "about 3 grains" in my notes ( chart says 3.2 grains), the 40 grain flat nosed JHP Armscor bullets, new cases and CCI 500 small pistol primers. In a 10" barreled contender with a 1:9 twist I only got two chronograph readings of 1361 and 1343 fps. It was noticeably quieter. Unfortunately it smelled bad to shoot, and was noticeably less accurate than other powders. Not just vertical stringing, but more horizontal spread too. Normally I can't shoot well enough to see a difference in ammunition, so this surprised me. I was shooting at 25 yards from a sandbag rest with a 4x optic. I didn't record the actual group sizes, but what I vaguely remember is being able to hit the center on a 2" shoot-n-c paster with H110 loads (same bullets, brass, primers and die settings), and just barely staying on them with the Trail Boss loads. I did not see any keyholing, but only shot a few so I might have missed it. I think the bad smell was from using too little Trail Boss. I've had that happen before when reducing it. But I'm not planning on using TrailBoss in 22 TCM again to find out. I haven't tried making reduced loads with another powder yet, so I don't know if the poor accuracy was the powder or bullet and velocity. But I do know other powders are a LOT easier to load into a 22 TCM case.
