I have one of those too. Made the mistake of getting a CZ Scout and never got around to firing the Woodchucker. I'll have to remedy that soon. I bought this one for my G/F many years ago. I'm fairly certain we took it out at that time, but I don't really remember. It's a cute little thing. Probably shoot real well if you could figure out how to get a hold of it & keep it steady.

Remembered something this evening. There is an Anschutz in the house. A Woodchucker youth rifle. I have one of those too. Made the mistake of getting a CZ Scout and never got around to firing the Woodchucker. I'll have to remedy that soon. Took the Woodchucker out today. It shoots, if you can figure out how to hold it.

Take a look at the Bergara B14-R. It’s a Vudoo lookalike and available with carbon steel or fiber wrapped barrel. If you look around you can pick one up around nine-ish. Short action 700 Remington accessories like bases and rails fit. I swapped triggers (Trigger Tech Diamond) to get a little lighter break, but other than that, it shoots great.

Milked a .27" wide by .75" tall 50 yd group out of the Contender today. Federal bulk ammo & a bit windy. Using a bipod & bag. Group would've have been better had I not dropped shot #3. (I took the picture upside down)

Bergara B14-R headed this way. Steel barrel.
Now for the scope. Any advice? I'm thinking something in the 4,5 or 6X-20X range. Not made in China. Learning about FFP & SFP. I believe Front Focal Plane is more desirable, although I see plenty of higher end scopes with the Secondary Focal Plane design. Parallax adjustment below 50 yds is more difficult to find.

Decide what your primary use of your rifle will be and let that drive your scope search. Non-benchrest applications do not require ultra fine cross hairs or extreme magnification. Variables are great for hunting and for matches with varying ranges / conditions. Mil dots and ranging reticles all have their places - if you need them.

Have plenty to learn now.

A 56mm bell on a 22 may sour the looks. JMO

Depends on the set up and size of the gun to me. A lot of the new rifles are REM 700 footprint and sized as training rifles and also allow the use of the better triggers and stock options.

Kimber Super American with a Swarovski 4-12x does anything I can do and has for 25 years now. Needs refinished and probably rebarrelled. Might get to that next year. Most my 22s come out of the single six or contender.
