ok I’m not contemplating this, I’ve got an FA97 in 41 mag that needed a cleaning in preparation for hunting g season and I discovered the set screw on the base pin appears to have been red loctited in place. I’m thinking of taking a soldering iron and placing the heat directly on the screw, but I’m open to suggestions.
if I didn’t want to clean it I wouldn’t be worried about it, but in order to clean and lube it I need that cylinder out.
im really hoping it’s not RED loctite in strength, my experience shows it could be just red in color.

Good luck! I have used the soldering iron trick with success.

I've used a soldering gun too. It works just fine. Soak it in WD-40 after you get it loose to remove the residue.

If you can take a piece of hex key and directly mount it in the soldering iron tip, you'll get fast results. Remember to have a good hex key handy for quick removal of the screw so that the red loctite doesn't cool while you fumble for the tool.

It’s a standard screwdriver set screw so it should be easy enough but I’ll definitely have everything ready for when it breaks loose.

Trapr.... acetone on a Q-tip will tell you right quick if it’s fingernail polish, a common low-threshold sealant. Otherwise, heat. The seal of fingernail polish is easily broken without damage to screw. David Braadhsaw

If the screw wants to loosen, a little blue on it will keep it tight until you want it to loosen but you know this. I've got an 83 in 44 Magnum that is pretty bad about it. For me a touch of blue Loctite will keep it snug and the residue will last for a couple cleanings.
I can't imagine needing red, but also imagine the 41 Magnum in a 97 can be vicious loaded to it's potential. Regardless, if it's red it'll want to be pretty hot to bust loose. My shooting partner has a trick that has no choice but work, but he's a welder with 40+ years of experience in hot metal. It involves his TIG welder and a tungsten tip....

Good news,......I finally was able to get in the shop and clamp the gun in a vise as opposed to holding it in my hand and trying to unscrew the set screw. Bradshaw seems to be correct it was a finger nail polish type material, with the gun in the vise and a proper screw driver it broke loose easily. I’ll acetone it clean and then wire brush it, then replace it with something similar.
Thanks for the suggestions and ideas...........

Wouldn't be right to have a buggered up screw on a fine gun, so good on you.
