I am very intrigued with the 4 inch Ruger Redhawk chambered in 45 Colt, especially in its accuracy and ability to safely handle heavy loads. I've searched the internet for articles and have mostly found message boards with fluff and little info. I checked through my limited supply of gun magazines and have found little.
Do any of you guys have experience with the stock version of this handgun or know of any good articles from Pearce, Taffin, Seyfried, or other good handgunners regarding this gun?

I have this gun, my business load is 23gr H110 with a 310gr Keith SWC cast from a Walt era LBT mould. In a lesser gun, I'd have a grenade. The accuracy of mine is great, I have heard stories from others about bad accuracy until they had the chamber throats reamed. Since mine shoots well, I haven't slugged it. If it had shot terrible I would have slugged it. The only thing I have done is take those condom grips off they come with, and install some new old stock wood grips. A friend of mine who is a much better shot than I am showed me just how accurate this revolver is when he shot a 1.5" group off hand at 25 yards, using my plinking loads, which is a Lee 255gr rnfp with 8.5gr unique. He shot 6, not 10 for the group. I've only found one bullet, and perhaps it's my load and not the bullet, that's inaccurate. The Lee H&G 68 clone. I've tried only 2 sets of data, so that's not really a fair shake for that bullet. I truly enjoy the 4" 45 Colt Redhawk, so far everyone that has shot it has liked it too. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Thank you trey45. I own a number of Ruger 45 Colts and one Redhawk in 44 Magnum (I owned two and gave one to my son who swooned over it on a pig hunt) and like the idea of having one 45 Colt that can be loaded to the hilt without guilt or worry. The animals in my area of the world are not big enough to stop any of the loads from my other 45 Colts, I'd just like to have one to load up, get a big jolt from, and break rocks with. The Ruger Redhawk seems to be that gun - without the expense of the 5 shot single-actions. Plus, it seems like it's small enough to carry around on flat ground for an afternoon and short enough to fit in my glove box.

I shot 360gr LBTs @ 1400fps from 7 1/2" barrel. The Redhawk can digest some serious loads without worry.

I have 2 of the 4" Redhawks in 45 colt. If on my hip, and worried about critters, I shoot a 310 Keith from Mt Baldy Bullets over 24 grains of H110. It is Thor's hammer for anything I run across, and packs nice.
I keep one in my vehicle console with the Winchester Silver tip load. The silver tip is a very reduced load by comparison, and in the very urban environment it would be used in, shooting it with a single hand, and that being my non dominant hand, that is exactly what I want.
These have served me well for both purposes. My only mods is a Wolff spring kit in each. I highly recommend them. Bill

Thanks guys for the info. Although I'll be hunting with a 7.5 inch Redhawk 44M next month, I prefer carrying lighter handguns in the desert. However, I sure've got a soft spot for tanks. And that abbreviated Redhawk not only looks like a tank (all business), but in 45 Colt, should hit like one too. Please keep the info coming. The more I get the quicker I save. ;D

I need to make a correction, I listed my mould as an LBT mould when in fact it's an NEI mould, one made by Walt in the mid to early 80's. I checked my load book, it's 24 grains of H110 I use. Excuse the mistakes, i was typing in haste. There, that mould there

Jeff Quinn, I've read that article so much I've about worn it out. It is one that has kept me motivated to find out more, and perhaps, lay my money down on one of these tanks. Gunlast is one of my first stops regardless of the gun or cartridge in question. That target says it all.

I appreciate the kind words, Gentlemen. That Redhawk is very strong and durable. Excellent choice for a working gun.

I had a 5.5" 45 Redhawk some time ago. Traded it for a custom Bisley and am now kicking myself. May have to get a 4" down the road.
