Care and maintenance will always make boots last longer. Use a stiff brush to get the big stuff, clean with a wet rag and then just plain old polish will make any boot last like it should. I do not dry mine next to the ol' camp stove either as that is a good way to encourage cracking. There are many products out there so you can choose what you want but I use the Danner recommended products. If you take care of your uppers like this you can resole 2 or 3 times easily. I always get Vibrams. They are the best.
BTW, road salt is killer of boots so get that stuff off quickly. Trust me...I know from experience

It's hard to beat Danner's for comfort or durability. I have a pair that I've worn for three years as work boots(I work in a parishable food warehouse)and they are still going strong. Bill

I wore my LL Bean Hunting Shoes for about 15 years but they need new soles now. May send these back and order a second INSULATED pair. Cold feet bother me more now.

Thanks for all of the new posts, guys!
In doing a personal inventory of all of the boots I've killed (Danner included), they all have some part of the sole extending onto the leather. The glue just doesn't work.
Those that have the leather upper sewn on the traditional flat sole seem to live longer.
Hmmm, methinks I see a pattern... (at least for my fat butt tromping over variable terrain, your results may vary)

Remember, an extra pound on your feet is like carrying an extra 5 pounds on your back. Lighter can be better assuming you get the proper support and fit.
Danner's are too narrow for my feet. I swear by Schnee pack boots and have worn a pair with bobbed soles elk hunting in Wyoming along with a pair of Asolos that I've worn hunting in Africa, quail hunting in Georgia and elk hunting in CO and WY.
My aging arches need good support. I lean toward boots that have replaceable arch supports as they can wear out faster than the rest of the boot
