I'm going to steal some of texasfiveguns thunder. I want to see everyone elses home made customs. And yes Lee, that includes all of yours. Here is mine. Had a lot of help from other people. It is a 5 1/2" SS SBH 44 mag. It has Bowen rear sight and Clements front sight. The grips are from Cary at CLC and are amboynia burl. I did the trigger job my. Got it down to 2 pounds and no creep. It shoots real good. Bill

.32 mag that got subjected to a round of musical parts one night. NM XR3 from a New Vaquero, Stainless pins, screws etc from a .44 vaquero that wears the blue pins, etc, now. Grips from an anniversary. It's not final fitted, but it's continuing to grow on me.

My 45 Colt done much the same as texasfiveguns though I shimmed the trigger pin to tighten up the cylinder play to almost nil using a range rod to ensure I maintained required cylinder to bore alignment. Base pin is the factory one drilled to accept a locking screw. A Belt Mountain pin screwed up the cylinder alignment so was nixed. I refit the grip frame and thinned and refitted the factory grips. Also fitted a trigger over travel stop and worked the trigger to a very crisp 3# using the factory trigger spring with the "arms" bent and an Old Army hammer spring. I did recut the forcing cone and added a Clements front sight and Bowen Target rear. The throats were already corrected when I purchased the guns used. The little "jig" I made up to allow the cylinder to be spun on a drill to remove the scribble.

You guys look at Boxheads tool real close and make one up for your parts/tool box. I made one after seeing this picture and it is slicker than owl pellets for working on cylinders. I've used it to clean up that OM 41 beater you've seen pictures of and to "de-engrave" a bisley cylinder like Boxhead did. It works great!
In fact, Boxhead ought to copy this into the gunsmithing forum for all to see.

Forgot about an OMSBH that I picked up in used and abused condition from a pawn shop just north of Houston. It even had the dings at the base of the grip frame from being used as a hammer. Something I had read of but but never observed. For $225 I just could not resist. Timing was off so I had Alan Harton add a spot of TIG to the pawl so I could refit it. When I asked Alan about refinishing it he quite honestly advised that I would not want to pay what it would cost to have him do it. So he offered his guidance which I followed and recommended a gent just outside Houston to blue it. After a long vineger bath to strip the bluing I worked the metal by hand for hours upon hours as it was full of dings, a few really deep. The first photo shows it behind my 44 Special in works. I fit the white micarta grips to the grip frame while it was in the white so they are truely seamless. I also swapped out the medallions for proper OM ones. Once I finished the polishing I dropped it off to be blued. Two weeks and $40 later I picked it up. Quite a bargain I thought. I fit a Clements Bisley hammer, Belt Mountain base pin and Millett rear sight. The trigger and action were already glass smooth from what I suspect was a lot of shooting. Here it is done.

Sounds just like the OM 41 "beater" I posted in the beater thread. Hours with little blocks of wood and sand paper, install some Clements parts and a different grip frame and have Gallagher cut the barrel and reblue. No use in posting the same pictures twice but I understand the satisfaction one gets from taking a dog and working to bring it back to a better condition. There is an OM 44 FT that looks like your guns olde brother that is going to get the same treatment soon.

Yo Robb! How about a smite! ;D Where are the pics of that new XR3-Red brass grip frame? That Idaho 4 5/8 3 screw 357 might look good with brass and custom wood....

You mean the brass grip frame and ERH from the gun back east? I think Aggie01 was dropping them in the mail either yesterday or next Tuesday. The grip frame will most likely come up here in the classified column. I'm just curious if it is a Ruger MR-3BDAXE or an aftermarket one. SMITE? Remember you are talking about a dumb poop pumper. I just now figured out how to get to page two of a thread. Exhalt and Smite and Karma as they are known on this site are way beyond my comprehension.
