That's a heck of a gun for a first time Single-Action firearm! I hope you have had other SA experience. When I was a teenager, I read Seyfried, grabbed my saved money, and got my dad to buy the closest thing I could get to what Ross wrote about. Our local store had a 4 5/8" Ruger Blackhawk in .45 Colt, so my first single action experience was with that revolver fed with 300 grain bullets over a case full of 296. Admittedly, full bore .500 JRH is quite a step up from that, but that better grip shape helps a lot! And one can always begin with 440s over 10 grains of 231.

It's been a while since firing a stout magnum in a handgun. I shot quite a bit of 454 in my late teens and thoroughly enjoyed it though, so this seemed like a logical step up now that I'm a handsome, thirty something grown man.
I do have some Trailboss on hand in case my wrists decide to give out, lol.
Anyway, I'll out myself as a nerd and quote the Powder Kegs' motto from Bloodborne, my favorite game of all time: "If a weapon ain't got kick, it just ain't worth it."

I was NOT picking on you,, I was merely noticing you chose a serious handgun for your first SA. As a firearm instructor,, I get to see a lot of folks with the "wrong" first gun no matter the flavor. Most often the new lady shooters. So,, if you feel you can handle it,, by all means enjoy the heck out of it!

I know a lot of people get into certain firearm niches without much forethought and then regret it after a cylinder or a mag.
Ideally, this is just a primer for a 50 Alaskan

Got her home today! Upon closer inspection, fit and finish leave a little to be desired. Am I expecting too much, or is this about what to expect from a production gun? I'm an engineer and a former machinist, so I tend to be pretty critical in these matters. Anyway, should be able to get her to the range later this week.
Poor blending between grip frame and frame and it looks like some chatter on the frame. Other side is about perfect:
Not as bad as the last pic, but a little more "meh" fitment:
Some odd blending at the loading gate:
Chatter on the trigger guard. Couple other spots like this.
Noticed that some of the chambers showed less light than others when lined up with the forcing cone. Cylinder about .0020 - .0025 out of square:

Looks like they cut those chamfers with a dull or chipped tool insert. I have two bfr 500 jrh and they are by far my two nicest factory revolvers. Tight well fitted nice even brushed finishes and they shoot like rifles. I’m sure that gun will shoot just fine and if there were any issues magnum research will make it right. Their customer service is good not as easy as Ruger but still great. It is hard with a machining background because you can see all the little human mistakes along the way and you know exactly what happened. Trust me I know the feeling, I’ve been really disappointed a few times it isn’t always just factory guns either.

Yeah, I think I'm just being overly critical. I worked on Swiss CNC's for a couple years and had to do all my part inspections under a 20X microscope and most tolerances were in the tenths, so I kinda developed an eye for detail. For now, I'll just load up some rounds and enjoy the new cannon and remind myself that function always trumps form. I now also have a little bit more of an excuse to send it off to Mr Huntington some work Side note - the LE Wilson 500 S&W Q-Type Case Holder will work for the 500 JRH. I called them before I ordered mine and the girl that answered really had no idea and told me to send in some cases. Decided to just take a chance based on pics and I probably have a good extra .100" to play with before getting down to the holder.

I think a common complaint (if you could call it that) is that the final finish could use some work. Very sharp edges around the frame and trigger guard were the biggest issue on mine (5.5" JRH). A little work with a Dremel and sanding discs took care of it. Mine is a standard production model. I assume the custom shop ones are finished better but I have never seen one in person. Can't complain about the accuracy though. It is a great shooter.

Got the BFR out to the Pawnee Grasslands today and actually shooting it made me forget about my nit-pickiness. Only got 20 rounds through since I was out with co-workers testing some AR500 we cut out and I was unable to use my chronograph due to high winds, but 440g WFN over 27g of H110 really knocked the crap out of an AC IPSC silhouette, lol. I hope to get out to my usual range by myself on Saturday or Sunday so I can really take my time and do proper load testing and get the BFR sighted in. I will have to invest in more Trailboss so I can practice shooting for more rounds and also make some snap caps for dry firing and anti-flinch training.

That's why we spend thousands of $$ and wait years for our customs.

Third trip out with the BFR for some load development. Shot T&B Bullet's 400g RNFP and Matt's Bullets' 440 WFNGC & RFNGC all over Lil Gun (since I've 6 lbs of the stuff already). Hard to say how accurate any of it is because I am still very much a bad shot with this gun, especially after a couple of cylinders of full power loads. I am beginning to learn how to shoot this big single action better though, just got to let the gun do its thing and roll back and up. My flinch however... lots of training with snap caps needed to help that. Had quite a few low flyers today. Did manage about an inch 3 round group at 25 yards though resting off of my tailgate. Considering a red dot as well since my eyes just don't like irons anymore. Anyway, gallery forum:
