I have an extra stainless barrel sleeve for a Dan Wesson 357 Max. Is there a coating to make it black?? I understand Cera Coat is not to good on stainless. I wanted to install a scope mount so I don`t mess with the original blue barrel. Appreciate any suggestions...

Dan Wesson 1911 are available in stainless with a black coating. It's called Duty Treat or Duty Coat. I believe it may be a form of melonite type of treatment. It does not resemble bluing & you must be careful of certain lubricants (CLP & others) that will discolor it.

FWIW I've Cerakoted over 30 SS rifle barrels and more than a dozen SS actions and it holds up fine. I've cured them from dead flat to as glossy as you can get them. It's the prep that can make or break a Cerakote finish.
The Midnight Blue gives a nice bluing color and you can go beyond the suggested mix of hardener to go glossy. I would say that it'll be hard to get a match to real bluing.

James.... since you plan to drill & tap the stainless shroud for mounting to a blue .357 Maximum (Model 40), you could wipe the shroud with acetone and paint it flat black. That way, by simply removing the paint, the shroud is ready for future service on a stainless DW Model 740. David Bradshaw

As stated by dhd it ALL ABOUT THE PREP . I had my first Blued Ruger 44 Mag Coated it was a mess . I then took it to a good GunSmith it was totally different . After two years of hard use 2/3,000 cast bullets it still looks new .
