Well, the fourth promised date has been shot down. It amazes me at the multitude of "reasons" for delays too.
I'm seriously starting to doubt we'll ever see these. Like so many promised guns, excuses just keep on coming.
At this point, I have zero faith left in these ever being reality. But, hope I'm wrong...

I do know the past is the best indicator that we have. I'm giving them till August 1st, then requesting a refund. I'd love to see these frames. But, Lucy pulling the football out as we kick is no longer funny.

I hope these see the light of day, but if they don't I hope SSK stuck to the original Contender dimensions so the parts they had made can be used to keep our old Contenders running. Maybe even offer the easy open conversion again.

I hope these see the light of day, but if they don't I hope SSK stuck to the original Contender dimensions so the parts they had made can be used to keep our old Contenders running. Maybe even offer the easy open conversion again. ***** Asked Warren Center if he knew of a Contender have been worn out by an IHMSA silhouette. Warren said T/C had replaced one with 20,000 rounds through it. He said the gun was loose and they replaced it free with the new Contender, which had a stronger WATER TABLE. (The water table is belly of the receiver on a tip-open action and includes the metal joining the standing breech.) Warren Center said the improved Contender was direct result of silhouette competition. He later told me T/C had replaced a Contender after 50,000 rounds. T/C warranty provided free replacement to anyone who wore out a Contender. Once silhouetters got past the ROCKS & DYNAMITE phase, some of whom turned the Contender into an auto-ejector, it was hunters and alchemists who fancied the Contender a vessel for horsepower. Contenders have their peculiarities. Shooters have peculiarities also, with some treating the action as a sizing die. For that matter, every single shot used in the Production category has quirks. The Contender is the most versatile of single shot pistols. David Bradshaw

to me this is a very important project. not only will it open the door again for the g1 contender if they do all the wildcat cartridges they are talking about it should introduce a lot of new shooters to the wildcat hobby and hopefully keep wildcatting alive. i think this is a win win for everybody in the shooting and reloading community. so for me the money i have sitting there for now will continue to sit there.

I didn't pay up front, rather I have just sat on the cash I'd need. The initial delay gave me time to save it up. If it had not been for the virus rearranging and screwing up all my priorities since the end of winter, I'd have probably spent it on something else already.
So, it's not really hurting me to have the cash and not the frame immediately - I can't really complain. I really DO want to see this project fly. I'd probably have shopped for and possibly bought another original Contender by now, but I want to support this project.
I agree with scotth, and appreciate the sentiments of Mr. Bradsaw regarding the versatility of the Contender - new or old, but oddly enough, I'm not convinced that the G2 wouldn't have been "better," or at least adequate for my personal needs for such a platform, but I'm vested in the original to the tune of two actions in excellent condition.
I don't personally NEED the exquisite trigger on the original - it's actually wasted on me because I'm not good enough a pistol shot to realize its potential. Besides, the uncocking thing irritates me on the original. I use mine strictly as carbines for boring and very common cartridges and pretty much all cast at pedestrian velocities. I "need" another Contender basically as a complete and functional "parts kit" in case I break one or lose a part on one of the ones I already have.
In other words, I'm really just "in it" for the sake of reviving a legend and a classic (at least in my mind) and I guess I'll wait a while longer. I want a third action so my 30-30 barrel doesn't have to wait its turn on the action I use for one of the other carbines. I NEED a third ORIGINAL Contender action for the sake of parts compatibility. If I were to go G2, I'd go ALL G2 for the same reason, but I really want this project to fly.
Honestly, I don't think this projects is all that out of line from "normal" in the engineering and manufacturing world. I just think that someone got ahead of themselves in hyping it. Even as much as I know damned well better than to speak too soon on such an endeavor, I'd have a hard time keeping my mouth shut too. "Selling" it up front - getting the word out, I believe, was important too, but a few minor miscalculations regarding time were gambles lost. If I didn't believe that Marty, at Haus of Arms was really, really behind this (not just to save face), I'd walk away. Maybe. I'm not able to get out and "mingle" to see what else is out there that I need.
Shoot, someone dangles the right stainless, 3", five-shot 357 DA revolver in front of me right now, and I may just go back on everything I just said too. I'm not the epitome of patience - I just haven't had the opportunity to be tempted to spend what I saved for the SSK50 on something else I probably need even more.
This world NEEDS the Contender - the original Contender. It was jerked from under us too soon.
