I have tried medium to medium high loadings (14 to 22 kpsi) of both HS6 and Longshot in 41 and 44 magnums and 45 Colt. I have never found one to be significantly cleaner than the other, but more often than not a slight accuracy edge goes to Longshot, which is also a little more economical than HS6. As I like to try new stuff, I probably won't buy more HS6 when I run out. Unique, Herco and Silhouette also work well for these medium-hot loads.

I bought a pound of it to use with 480 Ruger and never looked back on any other powder. I haven't tried it with any other calibers at this point though. I do know I ran into issues (not really, just dirty as you're claiming prior to me learning/understanding the need to resize new brass) with brand new brass, and as you mentioned in a later comment that the brass is new. Did you re-size prior to loading? I Always full length resize brass even between loadings. I run too many guns of the same caliber not to.

I think longshot is why they discontinued HS-7. It’s an improved version. That’s what I use in midrange loads

11.0 of HS-6 has made the most accurate loading with a 230gr Lee LRN group buy bullet in my Marlin, this is the one gun/load I do not regularly clean the barrel and it's my cowboy silhouette combination. 9.0 of 800X makes up for a very close second, but does not meter as well. Haven't yet found a charge of BE-86 to match but would like to as it works in other 41s very well and I'd like to reduce the number of powders. If staying with HS-6 though, at least it's always on the shelves where I shop. Tell me about the BE-86. Is it similar in shape, size as Bullseye and Unique? It puts up some decent numbers in Speer 15 load data. Accuracy? Clean? What do you think?

I've only used 2400 & Unique in .41Mag & haven't felt a desire to change. I'd like to try BE86 as a potential replacement for Unique, but only because Unique doesn't meter as consistently as I'd like.

I am a fan of Alliant powders in general, and with everything for which I reload try to get a variety of powders to try out. Unique, 800x, HS-6, Titegroup, American Select and BE-86 are on hand, mainly for choice when trying out new slugs in a given revolver. HS-6 turned in a good result as I found with the 230gr Lee, but I'd had it on hand for reloading 16ga shotshells. As it's running out I picked up BE-86 for its claims of flash suppression. Haven't shot it to compare in near-dark conditions so don't know about it yet. It flows through powder measures very well, the Dillon 550 thrower and a Redding bench device. It is not dirty, but I haven't checked it against the others for comparative results.
