Well,, The guy in Montana, Tom Orr used to rodeo with my neighbor. Someone on this forum has met Marty, with the plane(lots of private ownership of planes in Alaska) in the town they shop in, when in town. The problem lies in how they are portrayed by the editors, managers. What gets cut, what they are prompted to say, do. The film people like their drama, even if they have to fake it. Ok, Eustace does kinda rub me wrong and I get tired of Sue spouting philosophy. I may have sampled from more than one show.. By "Sue", I'm guessing you're talking about that woman who runs that station and air strip by herself. I used to kind of like her but lately she's driving me nuts with all her spouting off about everything. Her life is one big drama show. I never did understand what that station of hers was exactly. Who pays for it and why is it there? All those other shows, I like to watch to see how they do things, especially by themselves. I did like how Eustice rigged up his truck to run off burning wood. I'm still not convinced whether I should believe that one or not. About those guys having airplanes, I'm sure they are not running out and buying them brand spanking new off the showroom floor. Then there are the ones that keep harping on how they may be killed any minute whenever they're doing something....

I watch mountain Men and some of the other outdoor-themed shows just for the entertainment, and I can certainly see the contrived drama. I saw on an aviation forum that Marty was recently retired as a firefighting water-bomber pilot. So he thus had another source of income to be able to own an airplane. At least, Mountain Men does allow firearms to be used. As for as fake drama, I have reliable info that some years ago a very famous network newsman was doing a live shot from a pier on the NC coast, which was in the path of a hurricane. Winds were calm at that point, so electric fans were brought in off-camera to simulate winds.

Problem with all of these so called reality shows is, they are not real in any way. Totally scripted from start to finish to achieve a goal, entertainment. I watched Deadliest Catch for some time, but I got real tired of all the contrived conflict and overreaction to the crisis of the moment. Swamp People was entertaining and I watched it for a few seasons as well as the one about logging, Axe Men. Was real sorry when one of the stars got killed in a car wreck near Port Angeles WA, not all that far from me. But it suffered the same affliction, contrived conflict. It gets old. I no longer watch any such TV. Its fake.

The people are real, the situations are invented.
