Anyone watch it? I don’t watch a lot of tv but have gotten interested in that show. I don’t get to watch it much because I’m usually outside or in the back room tinkering with something when it comes on and don’t usually think of it til it is almost off. But it is pretty good. Way over dramatized. But pretty good. Couple of those guys have some nice guns.

I've tried to watch it. But since Eustis (I think that's his name,) is supposedly local to WNC,, and all, I wanted to watch it. But,, after seeing his attitude, his "struggles" & such,, along with the over played drama stuff,, I called BS on it. LOTS & LOTS of BS on his part. The same thing with the Moonshiners program,, or the one called "Live Free or Die." The Live free one,, had 2 different couples "locally" and I saw a lot of BS there. Plus,, a NYC Producer called me wanting to buy some critters to use in the show. First off, it's illegal to sell wild animals or their parts in NC. I politely informed her of all this,, as well as discussed many things. She wanted to hire me to be on the show,, and I politely refused. I told her, that in my business,, I didn't dramatize things, and would not fake anything, as I was a professional. I did DONATE,, for FREE,,, a couple of already dead, & frozen copperheads I'd saved in case someone wanted a skin or two.
And Moonshiners,, I know a few of the folks on the show,,,, local guys,, & such. Just a few weeks ago,, I saw one of them, being followed down my road with a camera car. He stopped & we chatted a bit. Again, a LOT of BS going on with that one.
So,, I choose to NOT watch such things. No matter how hard I'd LIKE to see REALITY in them,, they fail.

It gives me a chuckle when they talk about a “life or death“ situation, and there’s no more danger in it than walking to your mailbox.

I watch it for the scenery and for the occasional glimpse of a firearm in use. I don't take the story line seriously. However, it was sad when Preston died.

I don’t guess I tuned in in time to know Preston.
But the reasons you watch is basically the reasons I watch.

Contender is 100% correct about the N.C. guys, which makes me presume that these characters are all baloney.

Yea true. But I’m not watching it for educational purposes. Ha I just googled the tent the guy in Alaska is using. Arctic Oven. Those things ain’t cheap. Ha Eustace used a Ruger Number 1 to kill a hog tonight, btw.

I like the show but I’m from suburbia so I can’t really relate.

My helper & I often discuss the various outdoor related "reality" shows. He watches some of them, for fun AND in a few cases, (moonshiners,) to see if he can spot anybody he knows. On the Moonshiners show,, they have one guy from Polk County NC,, and that's my home county. It's not a big county,, and I've watched it a few times. Yep, saw a guy I know,, and it confirmed my feelings of how much BS,, and I mean SERIOUS BS the show is. My helper,, saw a show where they were buying "supplies" for their still,, from a country store. Well, that store is about 1-1/2 miles from my house,, and the owners are religious and do NOT drink,,, nor do they support such stuff. When I asked about that episode,, I was told about how they were paid to "sell" the stuff to the moonshiners. AND how they weren't making anything illegal either. Apparently it was enough money and "fame" (advertising) to have them film there. And the "Mountain Men" show,, as noted,, I have seen a few shows,, and recognized places they go to. Plus,, some of the crap they have shown as "hardships" or "danger" are just pure manure for the garden. One place, a scrap yard where they scrounge for stuff to use in building whatever the current project is,, is a place I regularly sell my scrap to. (Biltmore Iron & Metal.) And after talking to that producer from NYC,, and how she tried HARD to get me to be a part of the show,,, I KNEW I didn't want MY business name associated with it. As I told her; "I can't act stupid, nor will I sensationalize anything for drama or effect. I'm a TRUE professional,, and my work is to be respected, NOT sold like a whore." But I was polite & did donate those copperheads. I never knew if they got used or not. Didn't care.

I watched it once, maybe twice. When I saw the guy that flies his plane into a trapping cabin (has to get some fur or his family starves, but owns an airplane😀) has a breakdown on his snowmobile. He hikes 10 miles to his cabin in the dark. Gets another motor for the snowmobile and carries it back 10 miles and replaces it. Seriously!!! Got a good laugh but as stated.... BS.

Well,, The guy in Montana, Tom Orr used to rodeo with my neighbor. Someone on this forum has met Marty, with the plane(lots of private ownership of planes in Alaska) in the town they shop in, when in town. The problem lies in how they are portrayed by the editors, managers. What gets cut, what they are prompted to say, do. The film people like their drama, even if they have to fake it. Ok, Eustace does kinda rub me wrong and I get tired of Sue spouting philosophy. I may have sampled from more than one show..

I don’t blame ya one bit Contender. I don’t know if I’d want my name drug thru the drama puddle either.
