Is Ryan Ross a builders name I should know? It looks very well made but for $6k it needs to be a masterpiece by an established master...
Just in my never humble opinion.

You know I am all for asking anything you want for your work, the market will bear out its value and more power to him if he gets that price. But I wonder if he has ever actually sold one of his guns for anything close to what he has listed them for?

Paying that much sight unseen is hard to do even with the big name guys used guns.

I remember when a Linebaugh 500L Plainsman Bisley Vaquero sat on This website for a few weeks before it go grabbed up for $1200-1400 10 years ago. Sure it was a no frills blued gun but for that money? If I had the money at the time it would have found a permanent home in my safe. Times change and these guns are not going down in price.
Of course that is for established name gunsmiths.

Lots of guys charge $1k for ivory (Dustin L for example) (and these are very thick, so a premium is reasonable) and $1k for an octagon barrel (Clements).
Figure $600 for the base gun.
That's $3400 for the conversion, but bear in mind other gunsmiths include a round barrel as part of the conversion price. Round barrels are about $500. This is $3400 for just the action, cylinder, and metal work.
You can tell he did remedial metal work to correct some factory Ruger polishing and it's a nice looking build.
Bowen charges (RS07, RS08 packages) $3600-3700 for an octagon conversion. So $3700+$600 makes, $4300 plus $1k for the grips, add in shipping etc gets you the Bowen total.

If I remember correctly, a while back he was selling barrels he machined on Ruger forum. Very nice work.
Maybe thick ivory would be better to hold on to with such a heavy kicker?
Very nice work indeed.
Remember some guys here are lamenting that the field of custom revolver smiths is dwindling. He might just be the next Go to guy.

If people buy them, that's what they're worth.
I look at a lot of 1911's going $3- 4 - 5k and go "Who?" But they sell, as long as they're happy, it's none of my business.
