OK gang, talk me into (or out of) ivory grips for my Bisley Flattop build. Letโs see some pics if you got them. I love the look of both but there is a big difference in price so I am trying to convince myself to spend the extra coin

I love the look of ivory but if I got it I would still have some wood grips to do most of my shooting with. I know my luck and the ivory would crack under heavy recoil if I had them. You might get the ivory now because wood will always be available.

From my standpoint, it takes ivory twenty years or more to really look good on a revolver. And ivory truly looks much better when either checkered or carved. Not so with wood, as fine walnut or rosewood has that chatoyncey (?) that just says "class!" that ivory lacks when new.
Old Colt cap-and-ball revolvers, with the carved Mexican eagle, king Neptune, or steerhead designs in the ivory, do really look handsome, but at great age. And no so good looking if the carving is clumsy.
My preference is stag, either elk, red stag, or Sambar, and fine walnut or rosewood. Though I do have a very handsome pair of mesquite wood brips.

The obvious problem with ivory is availability. If you can get it, it would be my choice. Seep horn is very nice too. Walnut looks great on stainless guns, Heck walnut looks great on blued guns too. Hard to make a bad choice.

Mike, those are some seriously ugly handguns! I'll hang my head when I look at mine after those pics. The one you call a Flattop with the Dall, Wow!
Anyway, since I don't have Ivory money, I really like finely figured walnut. Heck, get a set of walnut and a set of holly when you want the white look.

Like mentioned, if you have access to ivory, I'd go with that because it's getting harder and harder to come by....walnut is a beautiful choice, but there's no shortage of it.
