I am going to need a nice holster to complement the gun I am having built and I see a lot on here are fans of Baranti’s holsters. I am trying to decide if the EK-5 or a Sloan would be the best choice. I would want floral coverage with the Sloan also. Those that have them let me know your opinions and pics if you have them. Any problems with having either made for a 5” octagon barrel as opposed to standard length round?

Just let Doc know about the barrel profile and sights and he’ll work his magic. I was amazed how easy he made it.

When we are spending other folk's cash around here our answer is always............wait for it...........buy 'um both! Don D. I have noticed that and even participated in such shenanigans. I am also noticing how quickly the cost rises when you start adding what you want and not necessarily what you need or can afford!

NOW YOU'VE DONE IT! A 5" octagon barreled WHAT? You don't say what the holster is to be used for, woods/field use, or everyday carry. My pick has always been some modified form of the Tom Threepersons design. I have tow of Barranti's holsters, both for Ruger Blackhawks. Holster on left is my everyday carry holster. The one on the right needs a wider gun belt which I am still saving for. Bob Wright

I have both holsters you mentioned. My Hank Sloan is not carved and of course the EK is. The EK looks the best and carries my Power #5 pretty well. I like it when on a gun belt. I wish it had a welt which it does not.
The Sloan carries better than the EK on a pants belt. It stays secure enough without a strap and I have no problem using it in a saddle.
I guess if passion wasn’t interfering with practicality I’d go with the Hank Sloan. If yours will be carved I would also get it lined. (Mine is not).

It is a Ruger Old Model Flattop Bisley .38-40/10mm. I do plan on hunting with it and shooting it a lot. It will be carried on my elephant hide gun belt most of the time. I am not sure about a lined holster with all the bad things I hear about them collecting dirt and scratching the finish

I’m pretty sure Doc’s lined rigs are smooth inside.

Thought I knew the one I wanted but dang it, after all the pics I have seen I ain’t so sure. I know it will be from Dic but now the Longhorn Companion is in the running. He sent me a few pics and now I am thinking that the Longhorn in black with the hammered stamping might be the ticket.

Before I got down to this ^^^^statement^^^^, I was going to recommend taking a look at the Longhorn Companion (LHC) So, I say take a second look at the LHC. It is a fantastic holster for an iron sighted hunting revolver! It carries high and tight so setting is not an issue. It carries strong side or cross draw, left or right handed, and easily removes or dawns with just a snap.

I could go on and on about how good they are but if you try one you will figure it out pretty quick.
