My lawn is overrun by chipmunks. The past 3 days I've hunted 3 of them successfully. I think there are 4 or 5 left plus 3 woodchucks. So I hope to have a good season.

Those twitchy striped rats do a lot of yard damage. What are you eradicating them with? Good luck and happy hunting!

Those twitchy striped rats do a lot of yard damage. What are you eradicating them with? Good luck and happy hunting! Chipmunks.... They eat everything the little lady plants around here. I've finally found a solution... A 5 gallon bucket half full of water, a 1"x4" of your desired length and a small bag of sunflower seeds. Float a layer of the seeds on top of the water so it looke like the bucket is full of them, make a ramp going up to the rim of the bucket hanging over the bucket by about 5", place a trail of just several sunflower seeds up to the top of "the plank" where you put 4 or 5 seeds and that's it. Staples from a staple gun can be used for ledges so the seeds don't roll off. The greedy little suckers scurry up the plank eating seeds as they go and when they get to the top and see that "bucket full-o-seeds" they jump right in and good by chipmunk. I caught 10 the first afternoon I tried it. Couldn't believe it. I made a ramp with a platform so the "plank" is parallel with the ground. GTS and you'll find some U-tube videos if my description doesn't get you there.

I do the same thing for mice, but instead I take a dowel and a piece of PVC pipe over the dowel so it spins freely, and when they get up on it they slip in. Not sure if the munks will go for that, but I've cleaned house with mice after I had the foundation opened for fixing.

Ruger 22/45 and dot sight. Awesome! I used a Smith & Wesson 617 on them years ago.

I never got the bucket wood plank method to work. I use either a 44spl or 45colt with shotshells. Lol, you get some pretty good range with them too.....

They do seem to be booming. The 2 black snakes and the Cooper's hawks in the backyard can't keep up this year. May have to enter the fray.

My problem is, if I see a snake, it's dead. I hate them

Well, many will agree with you. I've always been fond of snakes. I cannot allow the poisionous versions around the house or yard, but otherwise. OK, so big grumpy water snakes generally get shot. The rattlers that get shot at camp, around buildings, yard, get et. I've been known to stop traffic to get a black snake off the road. They generally do not appreciate it.

Got rid of the first gopher of the year a day or so ago with the Sulphur flakes and weed burner torch. There was smoke rising from cracks and mounds all around where I was standing!

Simple. Find an open gopher or mole hole or find a tunnel, put 1/2 cup of so of sulfur flakes in the opening and turn on the weed burner. It melts the sulfur and the sulfur fumes, smoke and heat is blown through the tunnel system. Just make sure stuff isn't bone dry when you do it! I buy the sulfur flakes by the bag at the ag supply house.
If I get most of them in the spring when they start then any outliers that find their way in during the summer I use the Gopher Hawk trap and catch them with that. I learned of the Gopher Hawk from a guy who maintains the large state rest areas along the highways here in Oregon.
