Recently had Freedom Arms install a 50 Action Express cylinder to my 6" 500WE. I have no intention of reloading the cartridge as there`s a good selection of hunting ammo available and since its made for semi auto`s I can`t roll crimp. I bought one box each of different bullet weights including 300, 325 and 350 grains and at the range all shot good but the Hornady 300gr XTP was very good. One shot with the XTP brought down a decent boar with no problem. I recovered the bullet and since we all know the extremes in expansion and weight retention that XTP bullets can exhibit I was pleased with the results. The bullet lost 92.8grs while expansion ( measured lead not jacket) was 0.723". Admirable performance on a 200+lb boar. I really did`ent know much about the 50AE until I did some ballistic research and found this is a powerful hunting round indeed. If you can locate Dick Williams old African hunt article he used a Freedom to take some good animals including eland ( he had I believe a 380gr cast bullet load for Cape buff that did`ent pan out). I found the 50AE to be a powerfully effective cartridge from my revolver and a good alternative other 50 caliber hunting rounds..There`s a bullet weight and style for all of North America and most of Africa..

I’m with JT, my 50 AE is with Freedom Arms now getting a 500 WE cylinder though the 50 AE is an impressive performer.

One of us is backwards! I had FA fit a .500WE cylinder to my 7-1/2" .50 AE. JT, FA`s had some issues with their supplier for 500WE brass and until they found a new company they offered the 50AE cylinder at a discount so I had them fit the cylinder and new grips a couple of months ago to my 500WE. I don`t know if they found a new supplier as of yet.. That`s my story right side up.....

Bought a BFR in 500jrh few years back. Came with a 50ae cylinder. Almost offered up the ae cylinder for sale. Local Gunshop went under and i bought every box of 50AE they had when prices dropped to 40 percent off. Love the jrh but little time to reload. Much enjoying the 50ae. May try to take a deer with it this year.

Like you said about little time to reload, the 50AE factory ammo with the bullets being used are capable of big game....Buffalo Bore offers a 325gr JHP @1450fps with over 1500fpe that when used properly can cleanly take anything in North America and quite a bit of Africa... I`ve said that for someone who does`ent reload the 50AE is a good cartridge for someone wanting a 50 caliber..... Best of luck with the whitetail...

I used a BFR in 50AE in 2009 at the SCI Handgun Hunt to take two water buffalo. One was with one shot, the other with two shots. I used the Hornady 300g load.

A wild boar taken in the mountains of N.C., a couple days after the gun was returned to me. Only you, Bob Baker and I had WE's in our hands at the time.

I picked up a beautiful Magna port Stalker, FA555 from our own 45man yesterday. It was an unfired gun, The purchase included some factory ammo, I was able to get it sighted in well enough at 40 yards, to smack a hanging plate at 100+ yards a couple of times and then take a nice boar at 125 yards last night at 11pm, with the aid of some feeder mounted lights. 7 rounds to sight in, 2 rounds on the plate and then one in the pig. I still need to get a good solid zero and chrono ammo, but the gun/caliber is definitely growing on me. It seems to perform like a 50 cal 44magnum, I’m looking forward to loading up some 275xpb’s and seeing how they perform.

I bought my 1st 50 A.E. ( an AMT Automag 5 ) way back when they 1st came out... I then added a custom Marlin Lever Action, & a custom 5 shot Super Blackhawk in 50 A.E.... the A.E. has alway been impressive... but don't be afraid to handload it... it gets better I use a Redding Profile crimp die custom companion rifle in 50 A.E. built on a new 44 magnum 15-20 years ago... turned a pussy cat into a raging mountain lion Bottom left is my custom 5 shot 50 A.E. Super Blackhawk bottom right is an early picture of my BFR in 500 JRH
