I have more fast burning powder than anything as it requires so much less of it. I couldn't afford to shoot as much as I do were I to use slower burning powders that need 2 to 3 times the amount of the faster ones.
When I walk away from my Dillon 550 I leave it ready for the handle to be pulled, that is, all stations have a case, and a fresh bullet is atop a charged case. I also keep a flashlight handy to see in station #2.

WST was my go to powder for many years when I shot Revolver Division in USPSA & I went through a LOT of it. 86,000 rounds in 2 years alone plus I cast every single bullet. If I had been using 2400 or H110 I would have went broke! Fast burning powder is a blessing to all of us but yes you have to be careful at stage 2 of any progressive press, no distractions. No visiting, no music, no breaks, etc, just sit there & pay attention.

I burned a few pounds of AA2, red dot, green dot, 700X, Bullseye, and a LOT of W231 when I shot 9mm minor in competition. I started on a single stage and then got a 550B.
When I was young I could pay strict attention to reloading with a radio or tv in the background. NOT ANYMORE. I have to pay attention without distractions now. I have even had to tell my wife, as NICELY as possible, in my softest voice, that I am doing something that requires 100% attention because a mistake could blow up my gun and/or hurt me or someone close by... just so she'd stop talking to me and asking me questions that took my mind off the task at hand.
I always have a case loaded with the current throw of powder sitting in a loading block, right there next to me. Then I look into the case, every case, before I seat the bullet. At least I get an eyeball glance at what's going on.
I once found a 300 grain WFN bullet inside a box of 265 grain WFN cast bullets that I was loading up in 45 Super. Didn't actually notice it until I was seating the bullet. You'd think I would have seen it earlier, but thankfully I noticed the increased pressure when I seated the bullet. Now THAT would have produced unintended fireworks had I loaded and fired it!

Just this week I was loading some 41 magnums with a commercial 212 gr SWC and when I went to seat the bullet it almost dropped into the case, but I managed to hold onto it . . . it was a .357 SWC that somehow got into the box.

I used a Dillon 550B for awhile, may get another, But for many years my reloading was done for hunting rifles only so i sold it. I got the revolver bug a couple years ago, So i am considering getting another dillon. But i think Six shot nailed my situation perfectly, I have ADD, if anybody thinks it ain't real guess again. I can,t really focus my mind like most people can. There are always two or three things going on in my mind at any given time. It ain't the worst handicap a guy can have but it is very real. Got a ton easier to live with after hi school was over. I think i could have been a professional guitar player if not for ADD. But truck driving has been a pretty good career for me. The reactive part of my brain works great, but trying to focus on things is very difficult, even if it is something i like, when it is something i don,t like it is impossible. But that is why i like to shoot, For the few seconds required to squeeze of a shot, it all works pretty well. I bet my lack of punctuation is a shock to some, and if you saw how often i need to correct my spelling , you would understand. probably 2 times in a sentence. I could not help my daughter much with school work by about 4th grade. Sorry to got so far from the gun topic, but i like you guys, and i think if people know this my posts might be easier to read. I am a fit strong healthy guy, live in the greatest country on earth, make a good living and am loved by many, I have it very good compared to many. I am about to drive 60 miles to murder some vicious pop cans , and never forget, pop can,s are just as evil as the gun,s i shoot them with, Tell that to the next gun grabber you meet ! it will raise an eyebrow for sure ! Good point on the idea that the ability to focus varies from one individual to another. Sure, we all have to apply a certain minimum degree of care when handloading but is made easier when the ability to focus comes more easily. Me, I can focus to the degree that when typing this post I cannot even hear my wife talking to me (which frustrates her). If someone is afflicted with ADD then extra effort is probably required to load safely.

Not that a single stage press needs to defend its position as the base of the mountain, you present the best of all arguments against a progressive press. Your situation highlights the importance of visually inspecting each charged case before seating a bullet. David Bradshaw

i load on a rock chucker, I don,t think my charge was double but it was an overcharge for sure, use an RCBS charge master, , I shoot a lot of .22s I have 4 now and enjoy them, I just bought a can of true blue and i have some .231, I could load some light rounds, but in all honesty i do not enjoy light loads much, I shot some Light loads today from my 4" model 29, They were very accurate , but shot way high, What i need to improve my shooting most is the time to shoot, I shoot most every weekend, 100 to 150 rounds, i am getting better. I am working on different job where i might get a chance to shoot at a public range a couple times a week cause i will be working less, and shooting more. That's how i learned to shoot a scoped rifle, shooting after work. It does not help that none of my friends are more than casually interested in shooting revolvers, my hunting partners are great rifle shots, one is astonishing, he can hit a running coyote at 400 yards and usually does not even know what grain of bullet is in his rifle, his late brother was just the same. Would have box of various loose rounds rolling around in it, for his remington 742 30,06 and load the clip with whatever he grabbed first and hit everything he shot at. I did see him miss a coyote once, it was so far away it looked like a bug, i said you finally missed something he answered now i know where its hitting , and dropped it on the next shot.

i have thought of getting a turret press, When i load now, i have a pretty decent routine, i shot 3 centerfire hand guns today, I just Resized and flared the mouth of the ,41 cases i fired, then i cleaned the revolver and put it back in my safe, I will reprime in a minute, then put the cases in the plastic box then put the box in my .41 crate. I will do the same with .357s and clean that revolver .Then i will put them away. Then monday or tuesday after work i will set the charge master for the .41 load, and load a few up, probably 5 or ten, go put something to eat on, and while its cooking load a few more, after i eat a few more, till i am done, put then loaded rounds away and set the press up to seat for another cartridge, purge the ammo master if i plan on switching powders, and charge and seat those a few at a time till done, So by the weekend i have plenty of ammo to shoot, remember i work about 11.5 and sleep 7 or 8 per day on average so i need to be efficient, I have maybe 2.5 hours of me time after work, and i must do some guitar playing every day i get to do a little of that in the early morning and a bit at work too. to stay sharp at that. It might be a good idea to limit my calibers to 2 a week, save on set up time !
