Dave Clements has finished four of my guns in recent days. I'll be reporting on those one by one, soon...
I have one base gun left in his possession from some time back. An Old Model 357 Magnum, which is obviously a midframe sized gun.
We've decided it will become a 41 Special. The cartridge seems well suited to this frame size and the 41 Special is more nose length forgiving in the shorter cylinder.
I've decided on most details, but on the fence regarding barrel length. It's definitely going to be in the 5.5-6.5" range.
Other details include, but not limited to are: 1) Tapered Barrel to reduce weight. 2) TLA Style Front Sight 3) #5 Keith Style Base Pin 4) Crescent Ejector Rod Handle 5) Bisley Hammer (The last available from Clements) 6) Steel ERH
Appreciate any legitimate recommendations for this build. I realize customs reflect the builder's ideas. But, I welcome input.

I vote for the 6.5" just looks right on those.
Anything special for the grip frame?

Dave and I've been discussing this possibility for some time. I wanted him to look things over before we set this build in stone. He got back with me this morning with a go.

It might be the last one maybe out of Mr clements shop, however they will be available out of mine shortly. As well as a few new ones to boot. Mr Clements wanted to see them go on and i obliged him out of respect and a deep desire to keep a good thing going! Dave Clements is a Gentleman of the first Order to mankind, and i am really excited about this. I am at the heat treat stage as of this week so that i can perfectly duplicate the fine product he has offered in the past. I will stop at nothing to make him proud! And you as well. Ronnie

Ronnie Ronnie, I agree 100%. Dave Clements is the finest of the revolver builders and probably a finer human being than gunsmith. JMHO, but no easy task. We spoke in length about your gripframes and I can tell you he only had the highest praise for them. He is major OCD and compliments mean a lot.

I vote for the 6.5" just looks right on those. Anything special for the grip frame? I prefer the five and one half inch length.

Mine will be a .41Spl built on a New Vaquero .357, barrel at 5.5". Currently it has a 4.5" barrel, that would be an alternate length. When I had Ruger put a 7.5" barrel on my .41 Blackhawk they sent the original 6.5" back and this will be the source of the conversion's snout. Soon as I can find where I put the darn thing.

I've got a couple weeks to decide. There really are no bad choices.
The 5.5" would be easy packing. The 6.5" a tad more velocity and sight radius.
Sure enjoyed the recent threads about this fine little round. Lots of information to be had on here.

..what about a 6"... Have only seen a few Rugers or Colts with 6" barrels and they look "interesting"...
Sounds like a wonderful project... Will always treasure my Clement's .41 Special...

Very cool encore! I'm sure the project will come together nicely with David doing the work. The .41 Special has been on my radar for some time. I have an Old Model flattop that will get the conversion, and I am looking for a Colt New Frontier base gun for a conversion as well. I just acquired a 7.5" Colt .357 intended for the conversion but it is way way too nice a shooter and in such nice condition to consider altering it. Just got some Special brass and projectiles from GT Bullets to get a start on some load development using in my 41 mag Blackhawk. Good luck; looking forward to pics.

As a long time fan of the 41 Special I think it is great to see all the interest and builds being commissioned for this fine cartridge. It would be so neat if someone with deep enough pockets would step up to the plate and go through the process to get it standardized and commercialized so more could enjoy it. I think I have more 41 Special guns in the safe than any other specific cartridge.

I've never owned a dedicated 41 Special. Do load for the cartridge and shoot them in my FA97 41 Magnum.
Seems everyone's opinion of the cartridge and Dave Clements is universal and positive.
Appreciate all the input. It'll all come together soon.
