To my Rapidly growing Collection, Vintage 1994 i think, Blue 5.5 inch , Question, is it the same Grip Frame XR3 or what ever you call it as standard ? And if i pull one leg of the Main spring off to lighten the trigger pull, is it likely to cause misfires ? And the same regarding spring kits Would installing a wolf kit cause misfires ?? I know rimfires can be harder to pop ! Thanks !...tj

Trigger spring works the trigger sir, not the hammer. So, no.

Next time you place an order somewhere, throw in a Wolff 30 oz trigger return spring on the order.
Rim fires can have some bigger velocity flucautions when you start messing with mainsprings. Firing pin indentation depth on rims is critical on match guns. Find some good consistant fodder and run a few 10 shot strings over the chrony to have a bench market before you start reducing mainspring weight. Once changed, wait for the new spring to take set and re-run a couple of ten shot stings to make sure your not creating a problem.
I see no reason to reduce the mainspring personally as I've got a couple of single 6s down to 2.1 -2.25 with a factory mainspring and a 30 oz return spring. I've thought of actually doing an experiment and going the other way (stronger) with the mainspring.
Remember, not all 22lr is the same. Find one that prints and chronies consistantly, not the cheap standard/subsonic that is pop, pop, BANG, pop, BANG, pop & click.

Take your gun apart and understand what you're asking first. Things are easier to tweak if you know how they work. No offense, but if you knew you wouldn't have asked that first question tj.

Squaw man , i have changed the springs in a bunch of centerfire blackhawks, i don,t have a clue how they work. i have no aptitude for Mechanix. I can change the parts ok, but witch spring does what is beyond me. That's why we have gun smiths, I can,t reassemble a 1911 without putting an idiot scratch on it either. Watched a half dozen videos on it. Cant get the pin back in the way they do. I put a cleaning patch under and the scratch is very faint but its there. On the Bright side, i play guitar quite well , And can shoot rifle well too. Getting better with a hand gun also. ...tj

Kudos on a nice addition.
Grip frame. What is molded in the frame itself,, under the grips? A 1994 vintage should have a g/f the same as a XR3-RED. The trigger return spring,, and pulling a leg off it's normal pin,, is called a poor mans trigger. And quite often,, causes issues,, when the leg starts binding against the hammer mainspring. (I bought a nice 10" .357 Maxi for $275 because of that.) If you wish for a better trigger,, (notice I didn't say lighter,) a different set of springs,, as well as a PROPER action job will give the desired results. No shortcuts for good actions.

TJ,
What kind of guitar?
On the action work, the blackhawk may be one of the easier handguns to work on. If you are at all serious about doing it yourself, there is a ton of instructions and videos on the BH.
Go slow and don't get frustrated. Don't try to tackle too much too quick. I would suggest disassembly and laying the parts out like a schematic. Then reassemble immediately. Get used to that part of the task until you are confident you know the parts and where they go.
Do one change at a time. The KISS principle works for me (Keep It Simple, Stupid).
You seem to have a great attitude and like Dirty Harry said, "A man has to know his limitations."

tj,
I have to get out with my S6 more. I have a Colt snake, the Diamondback 22, and that is as sweet as they come. I also have a S&W 17 with an 8 3/8" barrel that shoots lights out at 100yards +. Those see a lot of range time. The 22 is about the only caliber I like bottom feeders. I got lost for years chasing Hi Standards Model E, Colt Woodsman Targets, Ruger Mark II Govt Targets, Browning Medalists, SW 41's and I'm sure several others.
I understand your hesitancy to disassemble. I have an old Abilene broken down that has me in fits trying to figure out the parts and their functions. If it wasn't for fbengineer's support and encouragement, I would have a new doorstop.
Thanks for that recommendation on Terry Robb. He is a hell of a finger picker on that old Martin. I was surprised by him playing the blues on that acoustic. I see lots of bluegrass on Martins, but not so much the blues.
My favorite kicking around guitar is an old 1950's Martin nylon string, N20 I think. It looks a lot like Trigger and also has a couple of holes (repaired). The tone just makes me quiver. My 1930's National has a duco finish and just slides into a chord like an old Robert Johnson blues lick. I recently had a setup done on my Gibson Super 400 and Goodall AAAA Koa Grand Concert. They are both now a DREAM to play and I wonder how I ever let them get sit for so long.
I'm more of a musicologist than a player. I can play for hours, I think without missing a note. However, I know no songs, not even one. It's because I play ALONE 99% of the time. I don't play for others. I find it destroys my ability to get lost in the music. I'm always thinking about whether they like it, or want to hear something different; and at that point, I'm in my head thinking and have lost the music. To play well, I have to stop thinking. I discovered I was a much better player with my eyes closed feeling the music. and feeling the frets with my finger tips.
Music and handloading keeps me sane. I'm in that camp that sings, "Don't let the sound of your own wheels, drive you crazy".
Opps, sorry. I forgot, this is a gun site. Does anyone know the old 1936 Robert Johnson song, the "32-20 Blues"?

I certainly know the .32/20 Blues ! Better be careful where you play that one ! I can jam by myself to. did the bar band thing many years ago. I seldom play for anyone either, i work 55 hours a week. Terry is a real nice guy, i took a couple lessons from him. There is a Video of him and another local guy playing on the Conan O'brien show with Steve Miller, take care !
