I was teaching my brother to reload this weekend. He has a military background and is far more of a black rifle sort of a guy than I am. He was grumbling that although he likes the 300BO but that it ends up being pretty expensive to shoot really.
So I was pondering if you could run cast bullets in ARs without causing issues to the gas port systems. Seems to beg for powdercoated bullets but has anyone been trying this set up? I have a buddy who shoots almost all cast bullets I’m his but he also is running a bolt gun and not an AR so...

Lots of people have been doing it for many years. They've done group buys for molds for the .300 BO over on Cast Boolits a few times.

I've run the Berry's plated bullets in my AR based 300BO with good results... I'm more comfortable watching for jacketed bullets on sale at Midway.

Ran powder coated in both a carbine and pistol. 130g up to 215g. No problems...have at it.

I run a 195 gr powder coated flat point hardcast lead in my AR 300 blackout pistol with zero issues. So far so good

I run a NOE 155 grain HP out of an AR. Gas checked, traditional lube. I am using Accurate 2230, which is a little sooty, but I clean my AR so I don't care. The accuracy is there. I go maybe 20 rounds between cleanings (give or take a few). Been hundreds of porkers sent to the "Happy Rooting Grounds" by that load.

Another vote for Barry's plated bullets for the gas guns.

Cost wise I can get 4 rounds of 300BO for about $1 with blemished 200-220 grain jacketed bullets. That is figuring no cost for brass. Berry's plated bullets run about the same. Did pick up a RCBS GC mold with a plan to try them but never have.
