Got a hankering for a new gun; but can't figure out what it should be.
I don't reload so that is a limiting factor as i want callibers that are readily available in LGS. No LGS in area handles Freedom arms or BFRs so those would have to be ordered.
We don't have any of the big stuff in southern Illinois and we can only use shotguns, muzzleloaders, and handguns on deer at this time so... even if could, .308 and 6.5 cm would probably cover that. Don't really want the hassle of muzzleloader.
If ever went bear hunting with handgun, i would likely take my .460. If ever hiking in bear country, would likely pack 69 or 629. Also h ave redhawk i've let others use a bit for deer hunting.
Have the small stuff pretty well covered in both rifles and handguns. I'm not even sure how many .22s i have. .17 rem and .22-250 rifles and .223 contender have the groundhog / coyote stuff fairly covered.
Have several decent shotguns.
Have self defense covered fairly well with several AR 15 mini 14 rifles as well several handguns in .380, .327, 9mm to .45 acp.
Thinking Savage 220 bolt action shotgun for deer hunting, or a trim / handy varmit gun like a rem model 7 in .204 ruger or maybe a bit bigger caliber, or a fairly high quality single action revolver in .327, 44, 45, or 475 - either custom model or Freedom Arms 97 or BFR. Thought about BFR in 475 but not sure wrist could handle lot of that. If getting a Freedom Arms, can't decide round butt or not. Don't want to spend a decent amount on something i don't like and lose on if resold. Prefer stainless to blue.
I don't really need anything. Any suggestions?

Just throwing this out there... Howa mini action in 6.5 Grendel.
There's an outfit in Oregon (http://www.oregunsmithingllc.com) that does flush bottom metal to turn one into a slim trim little bolt gun.

Since you don’t reload I’d probably stay away from the 475. Not to mention, you already have a 460. My vote would be either an FA 83 or BFR in 44. Ammo options are endless and available everywhere.

How about you start reloading. Reloading and experimenting with your current guns will make them feel new to you again.

Lots of great reports regarding the 220 but shooting it would get expensive I would think. Is your state planning to make any changes regarding rifles for deer season?

If you don't know what to get next, another 1911 is always the right answer. Or .357/.44/.45 Blackhawk.
The CZ 527 series and Howa mini-actions are also good options with the caveat that if you like to change up stocks, the aftermarket support is much smaller compared to Remington and Winchester.

I second leftysixgun's suggestion to dip your toe into the reloading water. Start with a basic press and just one caliber that you've wished had more factory load options. You won't regret it.
Whether or not you choose to do the above, you can't go wrong with a .32. Since you prefer higher quality right out of the box, go with a FA 97 (maybe a long barrel). The .327 Federal chambering is the most versatile--you can find and fire factory cartridges in .32 S&W, .32 S&W long, .32 H&R, and of course, high velocity .327 Federal. On a day that you just want to enjoy shooting all day without recoil fatigue, an accurate .32 caliber revolver can't be beat.

I will second getting the FA 97. One in 327 would be fun, but consider one in 357 since you don't reload. My 7.5 inch is like shooting a rifle its accurate. Think about getting into reloading too. It will expand your enjoyment of shooting immensely.

A FA97 in 357. I just got my first 97 earlier this year and find the grip is perfect for me, though my 83's feel as good just bigger. Mine is the 327 with most of the bells and whistles, but I wouldn't have bought it if I weren't both a caster and reloader!
Now a 97 in 357 is just what you're looking for, and you know it. You also want the action job, black Micarta, a 5" to 6" barrel, fluted cylinder, and you want it bad! Yep, that's what you want!
No need to thank me, but you can anyway.

220: Illinois legislators proposed allowing straight walled cartridges in rifles for deer hunting last year. It never passed. Not very optimistic it will pass this year.
1911: Wanted a Ed Brown Kobra Karry for a long time and almost bought one several times. Now... Just have a tough time justifying it yet as have the 1911 / .45 acp pretty well covered right now. If i saw the right one at the right price... maybe.
Custom: i've admired many of the customs that have been posted and had pretty much decided on a couple customs (.22 and .327) by Clements about the same exact time he stopped taking new orders.
Howa / 6.5 grendel: A light, trim action may be an option. Not sure of caliber though.
BFR / FA: I'd really like to handle some. None of the local gun shops carry them. I came very, very close to buying a FA 97 .327 which someone here posted a link a while back. 5" barrel, adj sights, black micarta, action job, fluted cylinder, and round butt, new, with one hole factory target. Real close to 3k. I thought about it. Called and talked to him. Thought about it a little longer. Checked back and it had sold. Shop was 5 hours away. Still watching for a 97 at right price in right config.
Reloading: i know. Someday when life is less hectic, i hope to.

Depending upon your preferred deer hunting method another option might be a custom smokeless muzzleloader? I had a 97 but did not find the grip to be agreeable. I have large hands and don’t like dropping a finger. The 327 does seem intriguing! I’d like to shoot a BFR and compare it to an FA. If accuracy was about equal I could compromise on finish. I’m leaning towards a 454 Casull so I can shoot 45 Colt. Might be awhile though. Probably going to pick up a high cap home defense pistol this week. Sig 9mm x-carry. Should be a hoot to shoot at the local steel pistol range.

You're searching for a want. Southern Illinois is game friendly.... and you don't reload or cast. You need to do both. I'm near Centralia.... within a less than two hour drive from most of southern Illinois. What you're searching for is a nice lever action carbine or rifle in some game friendly caliber you already have. Have a look at a Henry carbine and rifle in the 327. I think you'll like it. PM me when you get the chance.

Have a couple lever actions. Would like a 45-70 guide gun or something similar in .460 or .500; but really no need for it at present. If Illinois allowed rifles for deer, pretty sure i'd have a high need for one. Will likely get a 97 or BFR at some point; but decided not going to until i've handled one. Therefore, i went totally off track and ordered one of the following with 10 additional mags. Probably have at least 30k of .22 ammo on hand currenty and the gun has gotten great reviews. Have a couple s&w 15-22s and they are ok; but thinking this will be neater. Already have red dots and etc. www.tippmannarms.com/tippmann-arms-m4-22-micro-elite-pistol/

Glad to see some southern Il shooters on here. We need to get together and do some shooting. Looks like I live in the middle of rangersedge and boolitdesigner . I have a small spread of 120 acers and can set up at my place. You don’t have to be from s. Il. to join in if can make this happen
