I walked in a local pawn shop this morning and spied 2 old Remington Rimfire rifles, a 513 bolt action in very worn condition and a 550-1 in great condition. My Grandpaw had a 550-1 that held a steady position in his gun rack in his old pickup. Grandpaw referred to it as his target gun. Many times I would hear, boy go get my target for me. I was happy to hear that, might have a chance to shoot Grandpaw's target gun. I was blessed to spend many years growing up around my Grandpaw. I put the rifle back and went on about my business and left, knowing I could not justify buying it. The more I thought about it and Grandpaw the more I missed the Old Man. He was one of the most important people in my life. I went back and bought it, during lunch I was able to shoot it. The target is a shooter for sure, and it will accompany me in the squirrel woods in the fall.

The 550-1 and 552 are great rifles, along with the Winchester 74. I've had several 74s but never had the wants and funds match up for one of the 55X rifles.
When all of this panic buying silliness is over, I may have to correct that...

The 550-1 That I bought looks almost new, the left side of the barrel had a few specks of rust that cleaned up nicely. Hard for me to resist blue steel and walnut. It looks like someone bought it and put it up. According to the date code on the barrel it was manufactured June 1966.

I have one of them and my dad has two of them. I grew up shooting my dads. When I found one for $100 in 2008 I picked it up as fast as I could. IT really does have a smooth old action on it.

I grew up shooting my grandpaw's 550-1. It is a super accurate 22. I love them. I have killed many birds and squirrel's with open sights with that rifle.

Like everyone has said they are wonderful .22s. But don’t forget the cool part for them and the 552s: they will shoot Shorts, Longs and Long Rifle rounds. If the “floating chamber” is clean and operating properly you can load any mix of those three .22 rounds and it’ll go bang at three different levels! Love em!!
