My 327 S7 is at TGW getting some work done. I was browsing this forum just now and saw Mr Taffin’s Bisley 32 with a rounded butt. I am wondering if that mod is worth the money. It sure looks like it would feel nice. My S7 will retain its 5.5” barrel length. What yall think?

The recoil from different grip frames is different for everyone so you will get different opinions for sure. A few years back friend Ken O'Neil & I took 2 guns identical in caliber, the only difference being grip frame, one being rounded & the other was not. Both of them were a bisley "style'. They were of a heavy recoiling caliber but the caliber escapes me now, perhaps Ken will remember. Anyway, both of preferred the square butt bisley over the round butt bisley for what it's worth.

I have a 4 5/8” 32 mag Single Six Vaquero that was made into a Bisley with a round butted grip frame. I really like it in that platform, to me round butted grip frames only work for very short barreled guns. I have handled several FA roundbutted guns and a 97 with a 3 1/2” or 4 1/2” barrel really works but for a 5 1/2” or longer the square butt seems to feel much better. It was explained to me for the FA design that the gun should basically pivot on your middle finger, the long barreled then have the flair at the bottom of the grip so they don’t have to be gripped so hard to keep from tipping forwards. But the short barreled guns don’t have much forwards weight so they don’t need the flair.
YMMV

I think a preference too.
Everybody has different size and shape hands. Also, I get tired of people posting the "correct" way to do things. General Guidelines are good starting points. But, the correct way is what works best for each shooter.
Personally, I love JT's 32 Round Butt Bisley.

Thanks Yall.
Good info. It looks nice but i agree. Not sure how it will work for a 5.5” gun.

Definitely personal preference, it's an individual thing, what's comfortable.
I never cared for the standard grip until I finally had a round butted one. Now I have at least 3 and a Super Blackhawk rounded, and then a birdshead on a 5-1/2" 45 vaquero. Havent tried it on a Bisley yet. But good fitting grip panels make a big difference as well. Personally I dont care for sharp edges or corners. Try holding it in you hand and feel for any points of contact you might not care for.

My hand very much agrees with round butted guns- bisley, FA97, and birds head.
Rounded bisley is my favorite, though they’re easy to make look wonky if not done right.

Dick They were 4-3/4" FA 83's in .454. Mine was standard; the round butt one was Bob Baker's. The ammo was Bob's full-charge factory 260's. As Dick says, we both preferred the standard grip. Mike Barranti preferred the round butt. To me, the standard grip gives a better purchase to the bottom of the palm. A person just has to shoot both to decide what is best for them.

I have a .327 Bisley, standard square butt 5.5 Inch. It handles very good in my hands, I also have an SP101 in .327 4.2 inch Target model, It came with the small grips with the wooden insert. I could not shoot it worth a hoot with that little grip. For me, you need a grip that fills your hand a bit. I put some Pachyers on it and it shoots much better now. (i am thinking of trading it for a 4 5/8s single 7 anyway. But the Sp101 makes a very good cary piece, But the recoil with the .327 is so minor i think you would hardly notice the difference on Bisley round or Square. But the one in the picture sure looks good !. ...tj

Years ago I went down in the basement one night and came back up with this. I thought it looked good and felt good. Except when I was actually shooting it. Shooting the standard Bisley grip frame felt better and I shot it better. Before I came to that realization I did it too another grip frame as well. I regretted it and wouldn't do another. As they said, personal preference.
