Marty remains the Master. Gunfighter ballads forever. Yup! "Big Iron" is still one of my favorites.

Thanks for that link. I've always been a fan of the Sheriff's writing So I believe I'll give his CD a try.

Mart Robbins gets the nod from me... "Mr. Shorty" was always my favorite: ("the 44 spoke, and it said lead and smoke... 17 inches of flame"), along with "Running Gun" "The Fastest Gun Around" and really everything from the "Gunfighter Ballads" Album. (His version of "The Alamo" has always been my favorite too!) I once bought an Alice Cooper album solely because of the cover art... a Colt detective special with a tyler grip shoe and an old period shoulder rig... "Lace and Whiskey" I think it was called.

Right on Rigby, Bruce Harris and his "galloping" bass.
Just to throw some other styles of music with gun references out there:
Santeria by Sublime Hallowed Point by Slayer Fist Full of Steel by Rage Against the Machine Bullet In Your Head by Rage Against the Machine (title seems a little vulgar, but it is an interesting reference to the way the media operates)

hyvltge, always hated the bum rap Maiden got for one song, their lyrics are amazing. Speaking of Warren Zevon, anybody remember this and what it was called?

Not cowboy but classic sixgun lyrics!
Stevie Ray Vaughn and Double Trouble. Song is "Tin Pan Alley/ Roughest Place In Town".
"I heard a pistol shoot. Yeah, & it was a .44. Somebody killed a crap-shooter 'cause he did a little shake, rattle & roll."
