Anybody use the NOE hollow point molds?
They call them "RG2 Removable Guide Style Hollowpoint mould"....what is this?
Good or bad experience?
I've only used Miha's HP molds to date.
Thanks

I have one NOE HP mold. It works pretty good. There a slight learning curve since theres “stuff” on the mold bottom so it doesnt sit flat like a MP mold. I had the make a “heat transfer plate” that lets the mold sit flat on my hot plate. RG2 just means 2 cavity HP, if I remember correctly.
What mold are you looking to buy?

MP Molds uses the style made popular by the old Cramer molds as you are used to. The NOE is the same as BRP used on his molds. They have a thick plate screwed to one side of the blocks with individual pins in mortised slots on the attached plate. Both work well. I have quite a few of BRP's hollow point molds, but no NOE HP's.

I have some of each. The NOE mold works best if you read his directions well and follow them... ;-) Once they are broken in they work great.

What problems are you having?

seem to stick to the pins frequently and sometimes the pin doesn't slide out in its ways, so then while working it out or off the pins, my next pour will appear to be in a cold mold. basically having trouble keeping a rhythm going and mold up to temp. I'm chalking it up to my experience, the quality of the mold is spectacular and many many people have had luck with them. Just wondering about the "instructions" mentioned if perhaps there is something I am doing wrong or not right enough?

I can't remember if I have instructions on paper or if I read on his website. I had to tweak one of the little arms that holds the pins so it would slide free. Also, you can take a regular #2 lead pencil and "paint" the pins with the pencil lead (graphite) to get it to release. I took the pins out of one of my Mihec molds and polished them, graphited them and they worked much better.
If you haven't thouroughly cleaned the mold with a volatile, non residue cleaner like brake cleaner, start with that. I use Barkeepers Friend after that. Then cycle it in you oven at 350 for an hour, turn off let cool, repeat twice more. This helps with break-in. If you heat the mold on a hotplate for 10-15 minutes before you start, it will make sure pins are hot..a problem source. Probably told you stuff you already knew. Just don't give up on your mold. One of mine was a bear...then it decided to play well. IF you smoke the mold, less is better, many recommend a kitchen match to do it.

Much obliged for that. Sounds like good advice on polishing the pins. Nah havent given up yet, figured part of it was heaving that brass chunk around! It's a 45 caliber 4 cav, so far all I've ever used have been 2 cav steel or aluminum.

Yeah...the brass is a chunk! Hope you get it sorted out. Pre-heating the mold made a *big* difference to me. I use a little hotplate. Check out some of the videos online, lots of info there.

I've got quite a few. Never had to polish any of the pins. I make sure they are loose enough where they screw in the the bottom of the mold to allow them to move when the mold is open. Keeping lead from building up underneath is the ticket if you ladle cast. Not much of a problem if you use a bottom pour pot. The key I have found is to preheat your mold and run your alloy temp a little higher than normal. Mine like a faster casting pace. Keep the pins hot and the bullets will drop off. NOE has a mold guide to fit different bottom pour pots so they will slide in and out straight. Hope this helps you!

I have one NOE HP mold and several Mihec HP molds. The Mihec's are hands-down easier to use.

Well....
I got my NOE HP molds today.
I'll give 'em a shot this weekend.
They do look like they're going to be more difficult to use but I'm hopeful.
One thing I know for sure.... The MP mold are a bargain.
