Sorry folks, no photos from today - I played hookey from the 38 Super (which isn't actually a client gun) and the client list guns to start on a cylinder for myself so that it can go away for heat treatment while I get back to actual shop work.
Bear with me while I do a bit of selfish work. :-)
I think I'll be back on track by mid day tomorrow.

I'm strangely buried in Single Six projects.
While busy with the Rim-to-Central fire conversions on three frames and the making of three 4140 cylinders, I managed to find the 38 Super job box.
I didn't clear enough bench space to get a composed photo of progress. It's close to the point where it's going to have another date with the milling machine. The frame top strap has had a good deal of material added for the sculpting/transition to the Colt barrel. The cylinder has been heat treated, and the barrel has a lot of finishing and detail work done to it.
Once it emerges from the material removal and surfacing treatments, I'll get a photo up for this thread. The work is for one of Jack's old shop mates. We're trying to get time in on the project between client jobs - and at this point the project with be waiting on artistic influence from it's keeper.
And it looks like I might have another Three Screw Single Six donor gun on the line for another fun build...

I've been distracted. That's a pretty fine distraction!

I've been distracted. How's that work suppressed with what I assume is essentially a near zero BC gap? Very cool build.

I've been distracted. A thread protector with a front sight mounted to it and timed properly would make for an instant barrel band if made slightly oversize.

How's that work suppressed with what I assume is essentially a near zero BC gap? Very cool build. I fired it inside the machine shop, into a walnut stump today, no ear plugs, with ss197sr ammunition. Steel siding, steel roof. Barrel/Cylinder gap at 0.002" Not as quiet as a 22LR via the same can, but I'd field it all day outdoors.

That's a pretty fine distraction! I can't argue with you on this.

The Super 38 got a bit of attention recently. Some frame blending, some additive process to the top strap, some contouring on the barrel. Coming along.

I want one of these. Except I want the #5 grip frame, Bowen rear sight, brushed nickel, with some big horn grips. Possibly a second cylinder in 38 special too. Have to be a rimfire conversion. Price quote?

Price quote? These projects are all unique. This one is for, and to some extent by an old mate and hand of the shop. It's come along some since the last photos, but I'll hesitate to post more images until later in the process. There is a great deal of work that goes into these Single Six projects. I wouldn't be able to give any sort of quote, either for cost or for schedule. It's a "time and material" kind of project. Even then, a great deal of the labor would end up being gifted to the project. If you like, pm me and I can send you in the direction of a better answer.
