Curious about a shotgun I saw the other day..... Browning A5 12g, made in Japan, had a silver colored receiver and I’d swear it said Heavy 12 on the receiver. I’ve heard of the light 12 but what in the world is a heavy 12??? Thanks 😊

Curious about a shotgun I saw the other day..... Browning A5 12g, made in Japan, had a silver colored receiver and I’d swear it said Heavy 12 on the receiver. I’ve heard of the light 12 but what in the world is a heavy 12??? Thanks 😊 ***** Believe frame of Browning Auto-5 beefed for magnum loads, with more changes for 12 gauge 3” mag. Prior to beefing A5 for mags, a lightweight receiver was made by scalloping steel from inside receiver. The bronze friction ring on the magazine tube may have been beefed for the magnums. For this just stepping aboard, John Browning’s invention of the autoloading shotgun, circa 1900, utilizes the.... LONG RECOIL system, wherein* the bolt locks to a barrel extension @ 12 o’clock... * barrel recoils all the way rearward... * recoil spring around mag tube throws barrel forward... * shell ejects... * bolt powers forward to chamber fresh round. While Belgian Browning A5’s are prestige guns, the Japanese A5’s exhibit all the precision of the European gun. Metallurgy may be somewhat stronger on the Japanese variant. My experience with the A5 is mostly Belgian, as mine were bought before manufacture moved to Japan. When I shot bowling pins out at Second Chance, the A5’s ran all day----with just a squirt of oil now and then----on buffer-clogged buckshot. The gas guns balked at having their innards fill with ground plastic buffer material. I’ve cleaned five plates in 1.25-second, which I don’t think I could do with a Remington 1100. David Bradshaw

Yes Sir they are fine shotguns...... I’ll take a closer look when the shop opens back up. The shop had to close due to essential business being open only and a bisley I had ordered cane in after the order so they opened up long enough for me and a few others to pick up what they had coming in. I’ll look at it closer once the shop opens back up. Thanks
