Ive been researching .44 special loads. I have the speer and nosler manuals etc and checking other sources
I have 255gr, 11bhn Kieths and 240 gr 12 bhn kieth swc
I just bought some Universal, have Unique, Herco, Bluedot, 2400, 4756. I heard of someone that likes using power piston
What .44 special loads and type powder are you using?
For colt sa clone gun. not ruger

I have been loading 180gr XTP's over 10gr's of Vihtavuori N350, very accurate and really good expansion. And today seeing as it is pouring rain and I am being socially distant I am going to load some 190gr SWC/GC HP's. I have the Vihtavuori N350, Unique, Accurate No.2, and Hodgdon 800-X, should find a good load in there somewhere. Will be shooting these in a 5" GP100 and a 5.5" Flattop.

I mostly shoot the Bear Creek 215 gr. SWC, kind of a button nose profile but very accurate. Loaded with BE-86 to around 950fps.

Brian Pearce did a few great articles in Handloader Magazine with tons of data.
Highly recommend getting the Issue Numbers and ordering back issues for the best current data with up to date powder selections.
See if the below link works for you...

I also highly recommend Dave Scovill's Book "Loading for the Peacemakers" as a great source for your gun. Copies on EBay run $30 more or less.

I have settled on Power Pistol for just about all of my Special loads.

I shoot a lot of 245-250 gr cast bullets with 5.5 grs of Win 231 for a nice easy shooting load in all of my 44 specials. Works great on Badgers.

I had found that Brian Pearce list 15,500 psi list I just printed those to save I have a copy of Handloader 236 in which Pearce states that Uberti .44 Special's should be limited to 15,000 psi. The same Uberti SA can be had in 45 ACP whose maximum pressures are 19,000 psi (21,000 psi in +P), so why would the thicker .44 Special cylinder not be capable of at least the same pressure? Unique, Power Pistol or Herco, I've used them all to run 255-260 gr. cast SWC's as fast as 1100+ fps in three different Uberti's. Cholla

I agree 100% with this post. I do think I read a disclaimer from a couple gun writers who advised against anything over 15,000 psi just because "They didn't know what steel was used in Uberti Guns." But, Cholla is right on the money with his logic. I use the 22,000 psi load data in my 44 Special Uberti with no problem. Also, load my 38-40s and 44-40s the same due to cases being smaller in diameter than the 45 ACP. Especially true at the lock notches on the tapered cartridges.
