My 1st carry gun was an Air Weight J Frame 6 shot 32 H&R Magnum ( forget the exact model number right now ) it's an aluminum frame steel cylinder snubbie that is black...
I'd kinda like to keep it, but in my haste to carry it, the only holster I could find at the time was a generic nylon J frame holster with no retention strap, & it kept falling out of the holster when I'd get into or out of the tall 4 X 4 I had at the time... it got embarrassingly chipped up in just two trips to the parking lot... since it was my 1st carry gun, I could see keeping it, or even selling it, but it needs some cosmetic work either way...
the marks are actually into the aluminum on at least one spot, not only chipped finish... I'm sure S&W would charge me for the refinish... am I better off sending it home, or to another shop for a refinish
Thoughts???

Just send it to me and I will deal with it, and promise to always use a retention strap. But seriously, a custom finish shop I think rather than back to the mother ship.

magnum wheelman.... would not expect factory to strip a finish it didn’t apply. Factories aren’t set up for that. If it’s paint, remove it yourself with acetone or lacquer thinner. Paint is an inexpensive, easily renewed barrier to surface oxidation. I use paint on some blued guns to protect against rust or to prevent further wear to bluing; but mainly as protection against hot humidity. Paint is easily removed to expose fine bluing.
I’ve painted numerous auto pistols which with bead blasted bluing, which is much more inviting to metal termites than high polish. Heckler & Koch and SIG/Sauer were among the worst, with Beretta right up there. Likewise, I’ve painted numerous rifles, both to protect bluing and to mute stainless. David Brdahsaw

Sorry if that was confusing, the gun was new when it was getting dropped, so the damaged finish is the factory finish ( whatever black coating they put on their aluminum framed revolvers )
